Girls in the Band

This documentary tells the story of several women as they tried to break into the jazz scene during the 1930’s and 1940’s. The women faced discrimination from many fronts, including their male counterparts who didn’t want to give them a spot in the band. If they did appear in a band they were mainly featured as singers or piano players. But there were many talented horn players and drummers who paved the way for the women of jazz today.
