When in doubt

I slept much better last night and am feeling much more ambitious today.

I tied in all the ends on my quilt; it went much faster than I anticipated. I thought I might have “just enough” fabric for the binding but I was a bit worried it wouldn’t be enough. I had pretty much the exact amount the pattern called for but I’m never confident my seams haven’t made the quilt larger than it should be.

I knew trimming the quilt was going to be a big task and I had some other things I wanted to get done today. If I waited until I had the quilt trimmed and measured for the binding I’d probably be too late to get to the fabric store before closing. If I needed more fabric and didn’t get it today I wouldn’t be able to get it until Tuesday. So when in doubt – buy more fabric! The shop had the same fabric as I used in the quilt so it was a quick in-and-out to purchase another meter. If I don’t use it, it is a nice fabric to add to my stash.

When I came home there was a fellow walking up the hill towards our house. He was looking at all the yards and I was embarrassed about the way the boulevard looked. So I dug out the mower and cut the lawn as well as the boulevard. While I cut the boulevard Pat raked up the lawn and then did another shorter cut on the lawn while I rested on the patio.

I’m back upstairs in the sewing room and I have three sides of the quilt trimmed. I don’t guarantee it is straight but it will have to do. I hope to get the binding cut and maybe sewn on; the hand stitching is going to take quite some time.
