Good ideas

I’m very excited about several new and creative projects that I’m taking part in.

The first is a Facebook challenge from a local friend who suggested a Pay-It-Forward scheme. I signed up and she will make me something, and I will make something for five other people. I have my list of five, and I’ve decided what each one will be getting. None of the items will be the same, and most are things that I’ve wanted to do anyway.

I’m also excited about a new quilting idea. In 1922 a magazine posed the question, “Would you want your daughter to marry a farmer?” Laurie Hird read those letters and has included some of them in her book (The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt), along with 111 quilt blocks that make up the Sampler. I debated about whether or not to purchase the book; some reviews raved about it, some were not so enthusiastic.

I received a Chapter’s card for Christmas (thanks Christy) so I used it to purchase the book. I joined an online Yahoo group, as well as a Flickr group, that are working on the project. So far I’ve only admired the photos in the book, but I hope to get busy cutting my fabric very soon. For some of the blocks I’ll use Mum’s scraps that I picked up when I was in Saskatoon.

Flat Stanley in Powell River

The next great thing is something that I’m taking part in thanks to Rhett and one of his school projects. As part of the project we have a houseguest for the next while. Flat Stanley is a character in a book (I’ve got the book on order from the Library) and the idea is that he is flat, can fit in an envelope, and travel all around the world. I’ll be showing Flat Stanley the sights around Powell River and sending reports back to Rhett. Before long though he will be heading off to some other town or city to see the sights!

Good ideas – I never seem to come up with them, but I love taking part in them.
