Happy Birthday Vicki

Around Four Corners (from The Splendid Sampler 2 series)

Vicki and I have been friends for almost fifty years. I don’t recall how we first met but it was in Yellowknife. She and her family moved around the country a lot and we lost touch for a few years. She’s in Calgary now and I’m so pleased that we get a good in-person visit every now and again.

I used some of my favourite fabrics for her card. I made a full quilt (for Elizabeth) out of those floral fabrics.

Happy Birthday to the Quilting Goddesses

July 17th and 24th, 2023

I’m delaying this posting in order to celebrate both Stacia’s and Deloise’s birthday together.

Blossoming (on the left for Stacia) and Stitch Crazy (on the right for Deloise) – both from The Splendid Sampler collection

Embroidery isn’t one of my favourite things to do so when I have a card done with embroidery it goes to someone special. I call Stacia and Deloise the Quilting Goddesses.

Look what I found for the backing of their cards. Does it remind you of Greek goddesses, even with the heads and torsos cut off?

Original post is here

Several years ago I gave them each of them a different version of the Quilting Goddesses.

Happy Birthday Christy

Full Circle (from The Splendid Sampler 2 collection)

How is it possible that my daughter is fifty this year!

Part of this card was done using English paper piecing and some of it was done by machine. I see some of Diane’s fabrics in this, as well as some of my own. The red floral fabric has been used many times; it was first used in a parka I made for Christy almost fifty years ago!

Happy Birthday Elizabeth

Spring Bud (from the Quilter’s Block-a-Day calendar)

I looked through my Splendid Sampler books a couple of times before deciding that this block wasn’t in them. My next stop was my calendar blocks, which I worked on during my Covid isolation. This particular block is from May 22nd, although I have no idea whether or not I actually made it on that day.

Elizabeth has a green thumb and always has her yard looking great – in spite of her ongoing battle with the squirrels.
