Hands All Around

I was ready to post my daily block. I took the photo, I loaded my camera card into the laptop, and transferred the photo from my camera to my Photos app. I had the photo cropped and ready to export to my main machine before I saw my mistake. I don’t know how many chances I have when I’m sewing to check that I have things right but somehow I still manage to get something wrong.

This morning I was doing some prep work on a Covid-19 opening for the Hall. I had the document done, I had transferred it to a pdf, I wrote an e-mail to send it out with and I attached the document to the message. I was checking before I hit the Send button and I saw something that needed to be changed. I made the change, went back through the process again and noticed something else I wanted to change. I think it took me four attempts to get down on paper what I wanted to say. Hopefully other Board members will read it after all my troubles.

I had a few things I wanted to get out in the mail today. I don’t usually post anything on a Friday because it doesn’t go very far but if I left them until Monday it seemed that might be a bit late. I use the drive-through letter box and today just as I was pulling up to it I saw one of the postal workers with a bag of mail. I rolled down the window and asked if she does another pickup and she said no. I was able to hand her my items and they went into her bag. I thought I had until 3 PM to do my drop but apparently it is only until 2 PM. So all those days I thought I was getting things into the mail they probably sat in the letter box overnight.

I stopped at the bottle depot before I took a longer drive. I decided that if I was going to go out to the Guild “do” I had better get more comfortable being around people. There were cars in the lot but not as many as there have been on some days. I put on my mask and loaded my cans onto the trays outside so I was able to keep my distance from everyone. When I went in to actually make the swap (cans for money) I thought there were too many people inside and I wasn’t sure they were distancing properly. No one was wearing a mask and I’m quite certain that the trays weren’t being isolated or cleaned after each use. I had hand sanitizer in the car so I cleaned my hands as soon as I got back in and then I washed my hands well once I was home. I’m pretty sure I was safe everywhere I went but it really is my first time out since the middle of March.

And I’m not going to mention how many times I went back and changed something in this post!

More training

Goose Creek

I had another morning of online training – today’s topic mainly covered planning through the pandemic and planning for a re-opening. There were some useful ideas none of it was really something the Hall can use.

I also got the Agenda out for the Hall Board meeting on Monday. I was happy to include some of the things I learned in the first session. I don’t know how the changes will be received but I gave it a shot.

I may not accomplish much more for the day. Stacia, Deloise and I trade photos of what we have accomplished for the week and I didn’t have anything to show them. As an excuse they were told they’d already seen all my daily blocks and the quilt backing I made. I also had photos of my four birthday cards but they don’t get to see those until the birthdays arrive.

I’ll get back to my June UFO now – I haven’t made much progress on it and the month is almost half over.

Back to normal?

Wednesday, June 10, 2020 (Day/Block 86)

It felt like things were completely back to normal today – I spent almost the entire day working on Hall stuff. I’ve had a chance to use the new accounting package for both Pat’s and my accounts but, with a meeting coming up next week, it was time to get to work on Cranberry Hall accounts. Setting up the package for the Hall was easy and since there has been very little activity since our year-end in April entering the first set of transactions went very quickly.

Then I attempted to reconcile my bank statement with the accounting package and ran into problems. Long-story short it is the way the new package deals with outstanding cheques between one statement and the next. I finally found the solution online and I also found a lot of requests for the developers to change the way things are done. I can only hope they are listening because I think my “work-around” will have to be the normal until they change.

Garden Path

Late this afternoon I managed to get my daily block finished. Today was meant to be a card-making day but that didn’t happen. I had three cards ready to be photographed and wrapped for mailing so I at least touched a few cards today.

It’s almost like being there

Far West

Today’s block should have been an easy one but somehow I managed to get one row attached upside down. Does it mean I’m improving if I noticed my error before I took a photo? These aren’t the colours the calendar photo used but I couldn’t help but think of our drives “over West” to see how the crops were doing so I added a bit of green.

Did I ever post this photo of a wall hanging I made at our last Thursday group retreat? Today I pieced the backing for it. I generally don’t like a pieced backing but I had strips left from the panels I used on the front so wanted to use them up. If I align everything properly the quilt could almost be reversible (no guarantees on that though). I’m sure no one will notice there are not one, but three, Eiffel Towers on the back.

And here is the real thing. This shot was taken from the plaza across the street from the Tower. You had to be quite a ways back in order to get the whole thing in the photo.
