Another one

Monday, June 8, 2020 (Day/Block 84)

Double Tic-Tac-Toe

The day has gone really quickly. I wasn’t up and about until 8:30 so everything was late getting started. My daily block wasn’t finished until noon even though I was able to pull most of the four-patches from my scrap bins.

Last night, when we took delivery of several packages of prawns from a friend, I told Pat I would use the last of the apples in the freezer for a crisp for dinner tonight. At some point during the night I thought I had already finished the last bag but didn’t bother checking. As I was having lunch on the deck I noticed Pat across the street chatting with the neighbour. He had a bag in his hand; dare I hope that it might be rhubarb?

I had a few cards to quilt this afternoon – three of them were easy and the last one gave me a few problems but I worked through them and I’m caught up for June cards. The library called as I was finishing up to say I have another book waiting for me. These books are like small presents as I have no clue what they are sending me; I know that I’ve ordered them at some point but I guess with the isolation going on people are getting things read and returned so they are available to someone else.

Although I have more quilting I could tackle today I’ll stop for now and go make my rhubarb crisp! I still haven’t looked to see if I have that one bag of apples in the freezer. While I wait for the crisp to bake I’ll do some reading – I’ve barely started my 700-page book and who knows what is in store for me after tomorrow’s pickup.

A good day

Sunday, June 7, 2020 (Day/Block 83)

Diamond Ring

A little accounting, my daily block, some reading and some cross stitching – all that adds up to a good day in my books.

Scrappy Day

Saturday, June 6, 2020 (Day 82)

Crow’s Nest

It’s Saturday so I did exactly what was scheduled – I dealt with scraps. My daily block is scrappier than I would normally make it but I had the half-square triangles already made (from previous scraps), as well as those two-patches. All that needed to be cut were the borders.

From those scraps I moved on to auditioning my pinwheels for the next rows on my scrappy quilt. Before I squared them up I added border rows to the previous two rows of pinwheels. I thought I might have to purchase fabric for the sashing between the rows but I found some that will work just fine. The next two rows of pinwheels are squared up and matched so they will be my leaders and enders for next week.

I finished off the day but cutting up a few of the fabric scraps that were laying on my cutting table. I still have some left to do but I’m tired and I know they will still be there next week when I have another scrappy day planned.

Feeling very relaxed

Friday, June 5, 2020 (Day 81)

Checkmate

I’ve no reason to feel relaxed but I’m not feeling any pressure to get anything done today.

Between meetings and errands yesterday I sorted out some of my 12″ daily blocks and put them up on the design wall – well actually down as my design wall is the floor. I looked at the layout through the camera, made a few changes and then left them. This morning I made a few changes, took a couple of photos (one black and white) and sent them off to Stacia and Deloise for their opinion. I made a few changes after that and then sent off another two shots. I’m pretty sure I’ll go with the second layout but I’ll wait until Stacia weighs in.

I was supposed to be working on my June UFO Challenge yesterday but I didn’t feel like I had enough time to really get back into it. Last night during my 100+ Women Who Care I muted my mic, turned off my camera and while I listened to the presenters I got the blocks pinned and ready to sew the first seams. This morning I stitched those seams together so when I pick it up again next week I’ll be a bit further ahead.

It was time for lunch by the time I got my daily block done. While we ate lunch we watched a TV show; the episodes are at least an hour long (sometimes longer) and it is taking a long time to get through the series. I can’t knit or stitch because of the subtitles and it felt completely decadent to be watching television in the afternoon.

But I got back to work after one show. I’ve sorted through my scraps and put them away where they belong. I thought I had enough pinwheels for two more rows on one of my scrappy projects but I don’t like some of them so I’m going to make a few more before I quit for the day.
