A good stitching day

Thursday, September 13, 2017

I made a quick trip to the Credit Union this morning. I usually plan on a quick trip and then stand in the line-up for half an hour which ends up not being very quick. But today I made it through the line very quickly.

I had time this morning to do a bit of Cranberry Hall accounting, wrap a few more fat quarters and even empty my physical in-basket. I did some tidying and I can almost see the top of my quilting table – the first sight of it in a long time.

Today was a hand stitching day – 3 at 1. I ran out of energy before our time was up and definitely before I ran out of stitching. The two ladies I stitch with started a new project but I didn’t have the pattern so I’ll be a week behind the next time we get together. Gail is planning to rent time on her long arm and I told her I’d be very interested. I have several quilts ready but I need to wait until I can manage a long session of standing.

We’ll be catching the Texada ferry early tomorrow but we have a couple of chairs and a few more bins to load in the morning. The chairs will be sitting upright in the truck bed and I hope we don’t look too much like the Beverly Hillbillies as we head out!

I’ll do this early so I don’t forget

These days I don’t accomplish much in the afternoon so I may as well write my post early.

We headed out to run a few errands this morning; Pat had some things at Staples for the next concert at Cranberry Hall and I went across to Walmart to pick up a digital clock and broom and dustpan for the Texada house. From there we went to the bank and sorted out the money for the Texada house and then stopped to drop it off at the lawyer’s. I had a payment to drop off at the newspaper office and then Pat took the concert tickets to Rockit Music. It was good to get it all done in one trip.

When we got home I packed up a box of dishes that we will take with us to Texada. Our piles are getting higher and we just hope everything will fit into the truck. We’ll stay over for most of the weekend, provided we’ve remembered to bring all the essentials.

I’ve done a bit of accounting for Cranberry Hall since lunch; I soon need to get busy with Pat’s year end, particularly because I seem to be slower at doing everything!

This afternoon I’ll wrap a few more packages for the Guild challenge, gather together my hand stitching for tomorrow afternoon’s session, gather something to work on when we are on Texada, and get the sleeve sewn onto the backdrop for Cranberry Hall.

Tonight is movie night!

I almost forgot

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

Pat just came upstairs for a cup of tea and I suddenly realized I hadn’t done a post for today. I think this will still make it out for tomorrow’s e-mail.

My ultrasound was moved from this morning to this afternoon so I was able to attend the Guild’s miniature meeting. I didn’t stay long but I thought afterwards that I’m maybe not yet ready for a full day of stitching. After the short meeting I took a few photos so I could write the Guild’s blog and then I headed home.

After lunch I had to drink lots of water. I did well (according to the technician) although I worried I maybe hadn’t drank enough. When they made my appointment the nurse told me I should be uncomfortable but not desperate. It is a fine line!

After my appointment I ran a few errands. I stopped at one of the thrift stores looking for a digital clock for the Texada house; no luck so I’ll have to check out a couple more another day. I stopped at Dollarama for a few things; I was sure I could get a broom there but no luck so that will go on a list for another time. I had some cheques to put in the bank and a few payments to drop off before heading home.

It’s a windy night out there. Hopefully the wind will blow in some sunshine.

Not as “normal” as I would like

I had some good plans for the day and, at least for the morning, things went well. I started with a bit of Cranberry Hall work and then moved on to wrapping some fat quarters for the Guild Challenge. You may recall that I was the “winner” at the June party and my prize was to set the Guild challenge for the upcoming season. I had lots of people say they would love to have been chosen, and my neighbour generously said she would pick it and we could pass it off as mine, but I felt a little guilty about doing it that way. So I came up with an idea that includes some fabric but leaves the design quite wide open. I have 40 fat quarters to wrap in tissue paper to hand out at the pot luck later this month. So far I have a dozen packaged up – it doesn’t take long but I can only manage to stand for a short time before my back starts to hurt.

I have a small sewing project underway from the Hall. We were gifted a lovely tie-dye backdrop for the stage last year and, up to now, it has been attached to the wall for events using push pins. I volunteered to bring it home and put a sleeve on it. I hadn’t even started it before I got sick but I’ve promised it for the September 24th Coffee House so it was time to get at it. I picked out some fabric a few days ago and today I got down to sewing it together. It is done now except to stitch the sleeve to the back of the backdrop. Because it will be on and off the hanging rod often I’m doing it all by machine so it won’t take too long to finish.

I stopped when it was time for our appointment at our lawyer’s office. I’m not sure if I’ve said on here that we have purchased a log home on Texada Island – a 40-minute ferry ride from home. Pat has been looking for a quiet recording space for a couple of years and, after the quiet week at Applewood Cottage, even I was noticing the noise this summer. It is a two-bedroom home, not very big, but Pat will eventually move most of his recording equipment over there. I may not go over as often as Pat does, but when I do go over I’ll focus on some hand stitching. Anyway, the papers were all signed today and we’ll take possession on Friday. I’ll wait until then to post some photos.

While we had lunch we made a couple of lists – things we need to purchase for the new home and things we need to take over from home. We needed some groceries so we went out this afternoon. Once we arrived at Canadian Tire Pat realized we had left the list at home so that meant we had to go up and down pretty much every aisle looking for things that would jog our memory. I think we did pretty good but then I haven’t bothered to check what we bought against what we were supposed to buy. From there we went to the grocery store; I’m changing my diet (low fat) so we were reading labels on everything. I was so tired by the time we got home and put things away that I had a little nap.

There isn’t much afternoon left but maybe I have time to add a few stitches to my cross stitch project.
