Thank you

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Thank you to family and friends for all the good wishes for my birthday. I’ve had a great day doing a little bit of lots of things.

I quilted my two placemats this morning and then did a bit of sorting out for moving on Friday. After lunch I headed out to the Library, post office and Dollarama. I had books to return at the library and I never miss a chance to pick up some new ones even though I’m only half-way through the book I’m currently reading. The sitting space at the library is lovely and I sat and chatted with a friend I don’t see too often. I had a box that needed to be sent to Christy and then I shopped for a few things we need for the Texada house.

Before supper I sat and read for awhile and then after supper I came back upstairs and put the binding on my placemats. The hand stitching will either get done tomorrow or it will wait until we’re at the Texada house.

I feel like a deserter

Last week I was sure that by this week I’d be ready for a day at the Guild bee. But by last evening I had already decided I was going to stay home. I had a couple of things I wanted to make for the Texada house and, to be honest, between the interruptions for photos, chatting, library work and blog posting I really don’t accomplish much at the bee.

But I’ve done well for myself today. I managed to get all of Pat’s accounting finished this morning and his year-end paperwork has been sent to the accountant. Yesterday afternoon I completed one of my Texada projects (a holder for plastic bags) and today I have two placemat tops finished. Later this afternoon I’ll get the placemats sandwiched and my machine ready for quilting tomorrow. I definitely want to get the placemats quilted and the machine stitching for the binding done; I can always do the hand stitching on Texada.

I have a bit of work to do to get ready for the mover on Friday – not nearly as much as Pat does though. There is still a rather long shopping list, even though we’ve made trips out separately and together to pick up things. The cedar chest Dad made is going to Texada; right now it is full of quilting kits and other miscellaneous stuff but I want to clear that out and take over some half-finished hand stitching projects. And Virginia is making the move but there is a pile of stuff that needs to be cleared off it.

In spite of the fact that I am moving things out of some of my studio rooms I don’t feel like I have a lot of extra room and certainly things are no tidier. I’m anxious though to get everything settled on Texada. I think it will be a bit of a science getting things to the point where I’m not packing boxes and a suitcase every time we make the trip (I’ll be asking for ideas from Stacia and Deloise as they do trips to vacation places on a regular basis) but that is my goal.

Moving In (Part Two)

Sunday, September 17, 2017

There were too many photos for one post yesterday so here is Part Two.

This is the living room space. Pat will use one side for his studio equipment and we’ll set up a sitting area on the other side. Next trip over I’ll bring Virginia (you remember Virginia don’t you). It will be a cozy spot next to the wood stove.

The kitchen has lots of cupboard space for what we need. We brought a table with us but the chairs didn’t fit so over the weekend Pat used a folding chair that we had and I sat on the top rung of the step stool. Straight down the hallway from the kitchen is the entrance at the front of the house.

There are two bedrooms in the house; one bedroom we’ll use as another sitting area (mostly my area for stitching, reading, whatever). Our queen bed will fit fine in the smaller bedroom; trust me that the first stop we made when we got off the ferry coming home was the furniture store to order a proper bed. I’ve been calling what we had a blow-up bed but in reality it is just an air mattress; sleeping was the only uncomfortable part of the weekend.

We have all the necessities – a bathroom and a laundry room.

Moving In

We are back from a wonderful weekend in our new Texada Island home. The conditions were rustic but we had everything we needed to settle into the place. Neither of us could believe how quiet and peaceful the weekend was. When we were leaving I said that the only reason I was leaving was because I knew I could come back whenever I wanted.

The truck was fully loaded when we set out, and we had the prime viewing spot for the ferry ride over.

This is the front of the house. We’ll be replacing the oil tank and moving it to the side of the house within the next couple of weeks.

Here is the back of the house with our very small back yard. These steps and path lead down to the shop.

The shop (Pat says it is too big to call a shed) needs a fair bit of work to be useable for us but it has lovely big windows, lots of electrical outlets and a drop-down ladder leading up to a second story. This view of the house is taken from the bottom of the property, just outside of the shop.
