There is no quick fix

Saturday, March 23, 2019

The organization/decluttering workshop this afternoon was interesting and the woman was very entertaining. She has recently moved to Powell River and operates an organizing business.

For the most part there were no new ideas; I’d heard most of it before and I just need to follow the steps more often. I was mainly interest in what to do with photos.

While she touched on the topic briefly in her presentation I was able to ask her specifically about them in the Q & A. I’m already working with the method she advises (photo boxes to sort); she suggests sorting into categories (Christmas, holidays, etc.) but my photos are too scattered for that to be easily done so I may have to come up with another sorting method. I do need to work on them consistently on a regular basis and at a regular time to make the process a habit.

We’ll see how that goes!

The show is over …

All my days are busy but yesterday I really didn’t have time to post. Pat arrived home on an early ferry so by the time we had coffee and sorted out plans for the week there wasn’t much left of the morning. We drove south of town so I could pick up a second-hand filing cabinet for the Hall; it was a beautiful day for a drive and it was a road we’d not been down before. I managed to start cleaning up on the “other” side of my sewing area before heading to stitching in the afternoon. With my organizing workshop coming up tomorrow maybe I shouldn’t even be attempting to get anything more done. I’d hate to have to start over due to some new knowledge I gain.

Last evening was definitely a first for me – and I think it will be a last. We attended a Whiskey 101 tasting at one of the restaurants (the one who did the cooking class and our Valentine’s dinner). I knew going in that I probably wouldn’t enjoy the Scotch tasting but, again, I knew the food would be good. As we walked home after the event (the responsible thing to do) I said I was going to have to try the Jameson’s again to see if I really do like Irish whiskey better than Scotch whiskey, or maybe now that our Ireland trip is a memory maybe I don’t like either.

Since the snow has been gone, every time I looked out the window I said to myself (and anyone else who cared to listen), I’ll get out in the yard once the quilt show is over. It has been almost a week since the show and I still have a final few tasks to do but I put on my gardening boots for the first time this year and headed out the door.

Pat pruned the grape just before the snow and I hadn’t had a chance to pick up the branches. They all fell outside of the fence so, although I worked for more than two hours, we really don’t see the results. Our neighbours will likely be happy though.

Pat edged the lawn and did the first mowing of the year. The grass was still damp and I’ll need to rake up the trimmings but for now, when I look out the window, I focus on my daffodils blooming and the irises coming up rather than the work that needs to be done.

I’m likely to putter for the rest of the afternoon. I’m not sure I’ll be able to knit tonight because my hands and wrists are feeling all that work.

It’s a good start

I was determined that this week I would get my sewing rooms cleaned up. I had hoped to go across to Texada and veg this week but things didn’t work out. I’ll feel better for the rest of the week if I manage to clear my spaces, including the spaces in my mind.

Although I’m not finished, I’m half way there. My sewing area now has surfaces, the corners you can’t see in the photo aren’t jammed with items, and the floor is clear enough that I can vacuum.

Not so much in the other room, but I’ll get there.

The day after

Four Seasons Tree

The show is over but the work isn’t done – at least for me. It took me two car loads to get everything to the Hall on Friday. It was a long day getting everything set up. I had to be there early as I was supplying the coffee and hot water for tea; the tea bags didn’t show up until about 9:30 but the rest was ready by 8:30.

O Canada

I checked in the Boutique inventory until noon. It is a job I’ve done for the last few shows; I love seeing everything that is going to be up for sale. Sadly I had my eye on a couple of items but by the time I got to the boutique (on Sunday) the things I wanted were gone. Friday afternoon I got my table set up for the door prizes and another area set up for used magazines that the Guild was selling (for next to nothing). I like to be there after the quilts have been hung as I get a good look at them when there are only a few people around.

Challenge Bag

I sat at the door prize table all day Saturday. There was a nice flow going with the crowd; guests started at the Admission table, were directed to the Door Prize table and then on to the Fat Quarter draw table and finally to the Raffle Prize table. Sunday was pretty much the same routine except I had someone relieve me occasionally so I was able to have lunch and do a bit of shopping. With a draw every hour it kept me busy tracking down winners and recording prizes.

Classically Trained

I had my first load of laundry outside on the line by eight this morning and headed out of the house about ten to run numerous errands. I had a door prize to deliver, a wheelchair and walker to return, a book to pick up at the library, bags and bags and bags of magazines to take to the thrift store, and a birthday present to buy. I have one more door prize to deliver this afternoon.

Farmer’s Wife Sampler

It should come as no surprise that the entire house is a disaster. I wrapped a couple of birthday gifts this afternoon and did a few of the jobs that needed to be done that arose from the show. I still have more of those jobs to do and the paper has piled up for both the Hall and my personal finances.

I’m a Farmer’s Daughter

Once I get my projects packed for the bee tomorrow (and another bag of things that need to be returned to the Church), I’ll get the last door prize delivered.
