I’m glad I started early

Wednesday, May 22, 2019

I was at my desk at seven this morning and I’ve been up here all day. Today was a clean-up day for me and a chance to sort out what needs to be done before I leave. The list is growing but I think I can still accomplish it all.

Once I had the top of my desk more or less sorted out (yes sorted, not cleared) I paid some bills for myself and for the Hall.

Then I started cleaning up my cutting table and a few of my surfaces. I have started a pile of “things to take with me” and I expect that will grow over the coming week. Once I had the surfaces more or less clear I decided it was time to switch out my filing cabinets.

The new filing cabinet fits in nicely but I’m not sure what will become of the old one; I have a few ideas of what I might use it for but I haven’t tested that idea yet. While I swapped files from one cabinet to the other I did some cleaning up of the paper in the files. I have a very neat filing cabinet now but my pile of paper to shred has grown – a lot – and many of my surfaces are buried again.

I still have some time before dinner so I’ll get back to it. Pat is going to be teaching a guitar lesson at five so I won’t be able to shred while that is going on but there is no end to the other things I could be doing!

A first

I was up at six because I had a number of things I needed to get done before heading off to the bee. With the exception of forgetting a couple of things I was ready to go at the usual time.

I finished the binding on my quilt and then moved on to a gift item for my Secret Pal. I was done everything shortly after lunch. That was a first for me; I often don’t even get to everything I take with me. The ladies teased that I should have brought more or that they had things I could do for them.

As I was packing up I was thinking of all the things I could do with my extra afternoon time. Then I remembered all the errands I had to take care of – the Hall, the recycle depot and the bottle depot. I was unpacking at the bottle depot when I noticed that I left a couple of boxes of bottles at home. I didn’t set them out for packing; I guess I thought I’d remember them when I packed the car. I gained a measly $2.85 but there is a bit more space in the laundry room now. I just now realized that I left my empty carton on the table at the depot. We’ll have to get a new box the next time we make a purchase at the liquor store.

When I got home I decided to have a short nap. Two hours later I’m up and I probably won’t get anything extra done with the day.

I’ve found a bonus

Monday, May 20, 2019

I had a Hall meeting this morning at nine so I was up early getting things tidied up; I started tidying yesterday and then got side tracked by my knitting and planting. I was ready for everyone in plenty of time and the meeting went well. As a result of some of the training we were doing I may have found a new tool to help with my website; I don’t have time to play with it right now though.

I bought a two-drawer legal-sized file cabinet from a friend and she delivered it this morning. I have hauled it upstairs but it will be a day or two before I do anything more with it. The new cabinet will replace the rusty two-drawer letter-sized cabinet I’ve been using for Cranberry Hall files.

I have the binding stitched to my latest quilting project and I’ll sit and hand stitch it tonight. Since I had a bit of extra time this afternoon I got two cards ready as well; I’ll add them to the hand stitching pile.

I was thinking of all the things I needed to get done before tomorrow’s bee (my last Secret Pal bag, stuff I’m supplying for the miniature quilt workshop next month, and the latest block of the month) when I realized that there is still one more Tuesday before I leave for Saskatoon and Calgary. It’s like having a bonus day!

Hall day – all day

Sunday, May 19, 2019

I haven’t actually been at the Hall all day but it certainly feels like it.

I did some cleaning this morning before a noon meeting with a couple of other Board members. One of our Board has some health issues and we were sorting out how (and who) things would work in the time between now and our first full meeting with our new Board at the end of June. We worked out a few things and planned another session for tomorrow morning.

On my way home I stopped at the nursery and picked up a few flowers to plant on the front deck. Everyone at the Guild workshop were talking gardens so I guess I felt left out not planting this weekend. I got some marigolds and coleus planted as well as transplanting a plant we’ve had on the deck since last fall. There are still a few petunias and geraniums left and I’ll get to them tomorrow.

I was back at the Hall for a 4:30 opening. I arrived ten minutes early and the performers were just starting to unload their gear onto the deck. I’ll go back tonight for the show; I have to close after the event so I may as well attend it.
