Walmart

Tuesday, May 28, 2019

Yesterday I upgraded my cell phone from a pay-as-you-go plan to a monthly plan. When I left the store I didn’t have any service but that was because they had to swap my old number out and into my new carrier; I was assured that would happen by mid-afternoon. By after supper it still hadn’t worked so I went back to Walmart because I knew they were open late. The store may be open late but neither the wireless shop nor the photo lab were open. I checked the times; wireless was open at 8 AM and the photo lab opened at ten.

This morning, shortly after eight, I made my way back to Walmart. The wireless shop was open, but the person working was a trainee and unable to help me. So back home I went to wait until the photo lab opened.

Around ten I headed out to the bee; I never intended to sew but I had a few things I needed to drop off for the group and for the meeting I was going to miss. From there I was back to Walmart and the photo lab. Even though I had reformatted my USB key yesterday their machine still wouldn’t see the photos I wanted developed. I bought a new USB key and came home and loaded it with my photos.

And back to Walmart I went. It didn’t take long to get the printing process started, but there were a lot of pictures so while they were printing I went over to the wireless department. They made some calls and said that it would be up and working in half an hour. I picked up my photos, made a stop at Staples, and then went back to Walmart. I decided I was going to wait until they had everything working before I left the store – thankfully they had a chair as I was there for two hours!

I ended up buying a new phone – a cheap one but not a flip phone which was the least expensive. I have the same number but I’m still not very familiar with the new screen and settings. I’ve added a few contacts but I’m not planning to load e-mail on the phone (even if I could figure out how to do it). I tried making a call to Pat at the studio but it looked like I was texting him so I quickly tried to get out of where I was; in the meantime it was dealing his number, he was answering, and I didn’t know how to get back to him.

I never wanted a phone in the first place. I certainly didn’t want to spend so much time at Walmart. I’m not going to rush into learning “what else” it will do!

I was wrong

I thought once the AGM for the Hall was over I’d be able to concentrate on my packing list. Not so. Since I’ll be gone two weeks it seemed like I should get the minutes from the AGM circulated. The Board had a short meeting directly following the AGM so I needed to get those minutes circulated as well. Then there is the filing to be done with BC Registry Services and our list of new directors to prepare for all sorts of government agencies. I made a deposit this morning, and I still need to do some accounting for the bills from the event last night.

I did a few errands for myself today too. I dropped a book off at the library and did a bit of shopping at Walmart. I wanted to get some photos developed at Walmart but they were having almost as much trouble as I was. The only option for printing was 1-second (which is more expensive than their 1-hour), but usually the 1-hour option is also immediate. And their machine couldn’t read my USB drive but I think that was my fault and the way it was formatted; I couldn’t find my “usual” USB drive so used another one I had on my desk. I’ve reformatted the drive and reloaded my photos and I hope that when I go back tomorrow everything will be fine on both ends.

Although I haven’t “really” started my packing the pile of things to take continues to grow. I’ll get serious about it tomorrow.

Pyjama Day

Saturday, May 25, 2019

By the time I’d made one (of two) blocks I needed for the Guild and had breakfast it was ten. I was still in my pyjamas and, since I was headed back upstairs to my sewing room, I decided today would be a pyjama day. I haven’t had one in a long time so I was due.

By the time I finished the second block, sewed a border on a quilt top and had lunch it was two. Since I was already in my pyjama’s I decided a nap was in order. I didn’t actually nap; I started a new book and then rested for a bit without ever falling asleep.

I’m back upstairs now and with what is left of the afternoon I’ll either do some more tidying up (so that I can vacuum before I leave on Wednesday) or get everything packed up and ready for tomorrow’s AGM. The Guild’s AGM is next week but I’ll be away; I still am required to prepare reports though but they are pretty much finished.

A thought ran through my head today after I had decided on a pyjama day. Do you think someone who doesn’t wear pyjamas really appreciates the whole idea?

Is it better because it’s free?

Tuesday morning before I headed out to sewing the phone rang. It was the local radio station and I had no desire to answer it and find out I didn’t know the answer to whatever question they might be asking (sorry Dave, you probably get some of those). When I got to quilting one of the ladies said she had heard Pat’s name on the radio; when I found out why I called Pat on Texada and told him he should see if there was a message on the machine.

There was a message and he won lunch for two at our favourite restaurant – the one where we took the cooking class and had the whiskey tasting. I had an omelette (we saw a video of him preparing the omelette and I wanted to try it) and Pat had the crepes. It is a French-influenced menu and both our meals were excellent.

We had a glass of wine with lunch (no wonder my stitching this afternoon isn’t going well) to celebrate the fact that we both had a free day and we were both in the same town!
