Company

Friday, August 23, 2019

I did a bit of computer work this morning, got a couple of packages ready for the mail, and squared up a few scrap blocks I’d made as leaders and enders.

I reviewed the blocks I made for my miniature quilt. There were some blocks that used directional fabric and a couple of them were going the wrong way. I realized that as soon as I finished the blocks but I thought I could get away with it – I was wrong. I set the blocks out a couple of different ways and my preference meant I needed to make three different blocks. I have them cut and ready to go for Tuesday.

Pat had quite a pile of documents that he needed to scan. He doesn’t have a printer connected to his computer so he had to use my machine upstairs. While he scanned I sat and stitched on the princess. It was nice to have a bit of company up here.

Short sewing day

Thursday, August 22, 2019

I spent the morning in my spare room upstairs. For the past several months (since we did photos for Madison’s grad) that room has been a deposit area for any number of things. Now that my sewing area is tidy (and so far I’ve been keeping it so) I thought it was time to tackle the other mess.

I’ve managed to clear most of the floor. I had a bag of pattern books that I was certain were headed for the economy shop but I just had to go through them one more time. I kept about half a dozen from the pile – mostly Christmas patterns and a few knitting ones. There was a bin of photos that I’d been looking through so I continued to sort through the loose one. There were a few I kept but there were also quite a few that I didn’t think worthy of the space. There are a lot of corners that need to be sorted through but if I work at it on Thursdays before my sewing afternoon I can make significant progress.

I only had a couple of hours at sewing this afternoon. I took along some hand sewing and made some progress on an embroidered card. The last time I used this stitch it didn’t turn out so well and I asked an expert what I was doing wrong and she said my stitches were too big. So this time I took a smaller stitch, reminded myself of what Barb said, and took an even smaller stitch. So far it is looking good.

I’m going out to The Boardwalk (in Lund) with Pat for his final performance of the summer. It will be a long evening but I’ll take a book along with me.

All caught up

Wednesday, August 21, 2019

I’ve spent all day at my computer.

There was some research I needed to do for the Hall and my findings led to a few documents that needed to be created, as well as a few messages that needed to be sent. Once that was done I sent out the Agenda for next week’s meeting and since I was already immersed in the records I got my reports written for the meeting. You could almost say I’m ahead of things, but I like the notion of being all caught up.

When that was done I moved on to Pat’s accounting. I didn’t have a lot to do but when I got into it there were a lot of questions that needed to be answered. And the deeper I delved into the accounts there were documents I was missing. His year end is at the end of the month so I’m all caught up and ready to go when that date arrives.

And finally I caught up on my messages and a few of my reminders.

Such a good feeling to be all caught up.

The usual

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

It was my bee day and there was nothing unusual about it. I worked on another miniature quilt – all the blocks are finished and next week I’ll start putting them together but I want to play a bit with the lay out this week.

I had the usual errands to run after sewing. First I stopped at the SPCA to drop off some pillows. Yesterday in my cleaning I replaced the chair pads on the kitchen chairs so I donated the old ones as pet cushions. Then I stopped at a mailbox to send off a couple of packages – I meant to do that on my way to sewing but drove right by the box without stopping.

I drove down to the Hall to check mail. No one was around but they are definitely making progress on the renovations. On my way home I stopped at the drug store to pick up some prescription renewals.

I’ll do some knitting tonight and, hopefully, finish my current project. A finish – now that is unusual!
