Lazy or relaxed?

Sunday, December 15, 2019

I’ve been sleeping in a bit this past week – often until after 8:30. Granted a few of those nights had been sleepless for one reason or another but when I wake up early there is no “thing I need to do” running through my mind. It was almost nine this morning when we got up. I said to Pat that since I had met my deadlines I was getting lazy; he suggested that perhaps I was just relaxing.

I must say if this is relaxing I’m enjoying it. I didn’t do anything yesterday that was even worth journaling about. Today was much the same. I’ve been managing a bit of tidying in my space but never enough to actually say I’m close to done or even ready to vacuum the floors.

I started and finished a new knitting pattern and, while I was sorting through some yarn, found several skeins that I planned to give away at one point. I should have given them away immediately but I’ve retrieved several of them and I’ve started knitting to clear out that particular bin.

I’ve also been cross stitching and I’m happy to say I’m almost ready to put the last portion of The Princess into my hoop. I have stitched the Pea and I must say it was a bit of a letdown – just four quarter stitches!

It’s a start

I finally got around to cleaning this morning – I couldn’t find a good enough excuse not to! I’m not saying you could eat off my floors, but I think you’d be okay following the five-second rule.

After the cleaning was finished I dug out a few Christmas decorations. I’ll add more tomorrow but they are stored in the closet and the closet is full of books, yarn (to give away) and other assorted items headed for the Economy Shop. Not that they’ll be gone tomorrow but I felt I had done enough for the day.

I cleared another surface in my sewing room (the ironing board) and I can actually see clear space on the floor. Last evening I finished sorting through my Christmas fabrics and cutting down scraps so that bin got put away this morning. I had a bunch of bubble wrap on the floor for packing and I put it away. I had a pillowcase full of fabric scraps so I closed it up into a pillow; I’ll drop it off at the SPCA on Tuesday when I come home from sewing.

I’ll spend the rest of the afternoon doing some cross stitching and I may be able to finish those scarves tonight. I have some incentive as the bin of yarn I found in the closet wasn’t all 100% wool (which I don’t use); there are some nice skeins in there that I can use to make some more scarves.

On to my next project

Just because my Christmas projects are finished it doesn’t mean I don’t have other projects to work on. This morning I decided to clear off one of my surfaces so I could get back to my cross stitching table. In many cases I simply moved things from that surface onto another, but it still seemed like progress when I could sit down and put in a few stitches before lunch.

I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted to work on at our Thursday sewing session so I took a bag full of projects. I had an embroidery project that would have made a nice Christmas card but didn’t get finished. I also had another Christmas project cut out that didn’t even get started. The last time I was in a quandary about what to take I dug out my Recipe Mix project – that also went into the bag today. And just in case I did some sewing I had a little package of leaders and enders to put together. When I actually got to Gail’s it was the embroidery project that won out.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll clear another surface – who knows what I might find to work on!

Almost done

I spent the morning finishing up my Christmas cards and getting them ready for the mail. After lunch I went out and did all the errands I couldn’t face doing yesterday. Line-ups at the post office were long but everyone seemed in a jovial mood so I didn’t mind waiting.

I have the very last (I’m promising myself) Christmas projects cut and ready to be stitched. Even if I have a brilliant idea in the middle of the night I’m not going to act on it until next year!

Maybe tomorrow I’ll get at some Christmas decorating!
