Great party last night

Friday, December 20, 2019

I spent the entire morning yesterday working on Hall-related tasks. I finished up everything this morning until the New Year (I hope).

I ran a few errands before heading out to my Thursday sewing group. It isn’t much of a group just now; Jessie’s husband is ill and she isn’t coming out and Tanya has gone to Saskatchewan for Christmas. I started a new 3-Yard quilt from some of the flannel I took from the Guild. I’ll keep that as my Thursday project until it is done.

When I got home I had to get ready for the Guild Christmas party. I was making a new recipe (Baked Brie with Apple & Cranberry Compote). I should have picked another recipe, or started much earlier. Fortunately Pat stepped in so I had time to gather a bag of things I had to take. It was a dress-up event so I had to get changed. Everyone loved the dish though so it was worth all of Pat’s efforts!

The Guild members don’t exchange gifts; for the past few years members have donated baskets and we purchase tickets and enter them in draws of our choice. The money raised is split between the family the Church adopts at Christmas and the Salvation Army. We raised more than $700 last night. I was thrilled to come home with the last basket that was drawn for – but certainly not the least of them.

I got back to clearing my rooms this morning. My fabric has now been added to my cabinet with a few in various bins around the room. I hope with the pieces more visible I’ll get more creative in the things I do. I also managed to pretty much clear the room on the other side of the hall. Still a day or two away from vacuuming; there is one more corner to clear out but I can see the end in sight.

There are a number of things I could do this afternoon, but I think I’m going to spend it knitting.

Running around

My morning was filled with errands – I hit pretty much every area of town except Townsite and Wildwood. First stop was the Hall to deliver a receipt and check the mail. I hoped there might be a cheque waiting for me but the box was empty. From there I picked up a few groceries – the local grocery store in Cranberry offer a 10% discount to seniors on Wednesday. Since I was in the neighbourhood and had a list I stopped in.

Next stop was the bank. Even though there wasn’t a cheque in the mailbox I had a couple of rental payments to deposit. Then it was off the the SPCA to deliver the pillow I forgot about yesterday. Practically next door to the SPCA is the airport and I dropped off a poster for an upcoming show.

On the way back down the hill I stopped at the bottle depot; I earned $10.55 for my efforts so you know we had a lot of empties to return. Best stop of the day was the fabric shop. I was looking for a particular pattern, which they didn’t have, but I had a little visit with a couple of folks who were also in the shop. The last stop was the ferry terminal to deliver another poster.

This afternoon I’ve cut out another of those 3-Yard quilts. I picked up a bundle of flannel from the Guild, added a bit of my own flannel, and I’ll have a donation quilt done early in the New Year. Some of our members have already made close to half-a-dozen from the bundles that were available. I have fabric for a second one but I’ll finish them one at a time.

I can’t really delay it any longer so I’ll get down to doing some computer work. Hall minutes, Hall accounting, Hall pretty much everything after a meeting.

Extra sewing time

Tuesday, December 17, 2019

Since we had our board meeting last night there was no need for me to drop by the Hall today to check for mail. I have to go out tomorrow so I didn’t have many errands to do today either. I say “many” because I planned to drop my pillow at the SPCA but I was parked in the driveway before I remembered. I’ll add that to my errands for tomorrow. But I was among the last stitchers to leave today – that doesn’t happen often.

I got my two blocks of the month done for the Guild – one for December and one for January. I made the December block but used the wrong colours so I took it apart, used a portion of it and got it done the right way. The parts I had to remove became two smaller blocks that I’ll keep on hand for something. We have a class coming up on using orphan blocks and I certainly have more than a few of those. Orphan blocks usually mean blocks left over from a larger quilt; in my case it means blocks I messed up on and had to start over!

I hoped to get cards done today in the order that I needed them. I’ve had the first one pulled out since summer as it was originally intended for a September birthday. Since all the fabrics were in a bag I assumed I had everything I needed but I guess I needed one of the fabrics for something else so I wasn’t able to go any further with it. Fortunately I had a couple more cards that I could work on and one of them is finished.

I’ve been enjoying my evening knitting project. The yarn is uneven and unusual so I’m just using a garter stitch and letting the texture of the yarn make an interesting pattern. It will be reversible too!

Back to reality

Monday, December 16, 2019

I was in no way stressed about it but I had to get back to reality today. I was up at 6:30 and I’m hoping my sleep pattern is back to normal.

I spent all morning getting ready for the Cranberry Hall board meeting tonight. I have kept pretty much up-to-date on all the transactions so the reporting was simple. Due to the renovations there were a few extra reports that I needed to track separately but they didn’t take long either.

This afternoon I was back to clearing a corner – well trying to clear a corner and the corner was, in fact, my cutting table (again). Before I got projects ready for the bee tomorrow I had quite a bit of fabric that needed to be cut and sorted for scraps. Now that those are taken care of I have a lot of extra tools and accessories that I want to put away in a bin somewhere so they are out of the way.

I’ll be back to needing cards next month so I have cut out a few to work on. I also have two blocks of the month to do (because the one I did last month was wrong). I got a new tote bag (a gift to myself) and it is filled with other things to work on – leaders and enders, a placemat, and another embroidery project. I’ll run out of time before I run out of projects.

I’ll get back to my cutting table now and maybe get it cleared off before supper.
