Week 9 – Day Six

Mosaic

I’m quilting today – for real – I’m working on this year’s Guild challenge. We show our challenges at our year-end pot luck in June. I originally thought I’d miss the party due to Quilt Canada but that has been cancelled so now I have to get the project finished. So far it is going well but there are many days ahead!

May Basket

I’ve spent the afternoon cross stitching. I had more or less lost interest in my project – a Thunderbird – and I thought it was because after the Princess with so, so many colours switching to a project with only four colours wasn’t very interesting. The small project I’ve been working on in my chair downstairs has only one colour so getting back to the Thunderbird seems less boring.

I took a break from stitching to check Facebook and I’m shocked to see that a Snowbird has crashed. We look forward to their usual Spring training in Comox as they publish their practice schedule and we are able to watch them. This year their training was cancelled but I was certain their Operation Inspiration would bring them to Comox.

Just yesterday Michelle (Diane’s daughter) and I were chatting about seeing them in Yellowknife. She posted a photo of them doing their fly over yesterday and then when I check in today she shared the news that one had crashed on their way over to Comox.

Jack and Six

Today’s block is dedicated to Christy. The black and white striped fabric was left over from a Home-Ec sewing class; she made a blouse and I’m sure if I took the time I could find a photo of her wearing it. The Raggedy Ann and Andy fabric was bought with Christy in mind as she loved (to death) many a Raggedy Ann as she was growing up. One of the first things I made when I started quilting was a pot holder for her made from that fabric.

I’ve been mucking around in scraps for most of the day. It was time to dig out my pinwheels and start counting them to see how far I was from being finished. I had enough four-inch blocks made for two rows and I got them put together. I prepared the remainder of the three-inch blocks that I need and they will be my leaders and enders for next week. I still have a lot of two-inch pinwheels to make but I’ll get to them eventually.

As I was digging through scraps for my pinwheels I started putting my new scrap bins to work. It will take a long time to get them all sorted but it will be so much easier to find the size I need once they are sorted. The three-inch scraps are done and as I emptied the scrap bin on my cutting table today (a weekly task) I started sorting the other sizes as well.

I’m off now to make a Half-Hour Pudding for supper.

Illinois

Today’s block finishes at 18″ – it took me all morning and felt like I was making a small quilt. A few of blocks of that size will make a good table topper, although I hope blocks of that size are few and far between. I did a quick scan of the index on the calendar and I saw at least one 20″ so I guess this one isn’t the biggest in the lot but it is the biggest so far. I had to dip into some yardage to get the amounts I needed – some of Diane’s and some of my own.

Although today was to have been a day to work on my scrap projects I decided to go ahead and add the three pieced borders that were left on my UFO Challenge for May. Just two more borders to add and I can call it a flimsy.

Arriving just in time for a couple of scrap project days my order from Amazon appeared today; it wasn’t due until the 21st so I wasn’t even anticipating it’s arrival. Inside were ten shoebox containers so I can sub-sort my scrap drawers – a project for another day.
