Week 7 – Day Six

Bouncing Betty

After I got my block finished Pat and I went out and worked in the yard for a bit. I pulled some weeds at the back and thoroughly enjoyed the smell wafting from the lilacs – both ours and our neighbours. Pat did the edge trimming on the grass so I could do another lawn cut.

I also got a good start on some more detailed weed pulling. I’d been around the yard earlier and pulled the few weeds that were starting but today I was down on my hands and knees pulling up everything that shouldn’t be growing where it was growing. I got a good chunk done and the best part is when I look out the window I can see that I made a difference.

Pat also did a bit of pruning. Although the yard is dry everything is growing well. The daisies are thriving, the peonies have buds and the gladiolus are all out of the ground. Our lilac bush is almost out and when that opens up I want to be weeding under it.

I intended to spray baste a couple of quilts today but it is too breezy on the back step. I’ll have to wait for a better day but in the meantime I have lots of other things to do.

Birds in the Air

I’m using Pat’s laptop to write my post today. I left my computer unplugged overnight in hopes that it would start again this morning (it has been shutting down periodically for a week now) but it just wouldn’t work. I think it may be the video card and we have someone who might be able to fix it. If he does I’ll take that machine to Texada and my iPad will really just be a gaming machine – think Wordscapes and Candy Crush Saga.

Before my computer died I got caught up on all my paperwork (and hopefully I’ll be able to retrieve it all from the backup). I was particularly pleased to get the tax information off to the accountant before working on the Hall papers that had been piling up. I have one Hall deadline for the end of the month but my new machine should be here and working by then.

I started cleaning up my sewing room yesterday and finished it today. I just need to drag the vacuum upstairs and do the floor and then it will be done. I cleaned and oiled both my sewing machines as well as gave each of them a new needle, I cleared my surfaces and found two empty bins to better sort some of my ongoing scrap projects. I’ve even done my paper shredding.

I took the car out for a drive this afternoon – it’s sunny but the wind is cool. I was able to drop off some envelopes in the mail as well as put a Hall deposit through the Night Deposit window at the bank.

Depending on Pat’s need for his laptop I should be able to continue posting every day.

Autograph Star

My computer died and I can’t post from my iPad. New computer has been ordered and It will be here, hopefully, by the middle of the month.

Trillium Wreath

Before I tackled my block of the day this morning I finished my April UFO. I only had three seams left so I counted it as an April finish. My May UFO Challenge is a medallion mystery quilt; I haven’t dug it out yet but it seems to me that it was very close to being done.

Since I’m still working on the latest clue for my Guild mystery I’ll be working on that for the rest of the afternoon. I had planned on cleaning and oiling my machines, changing needles and the blade in my cutter and doing some general clean-up but I suspect that will have to wait until tomorrow.
