One Hundred Days

Wednesday, June 24, 2020 (Block 100)

Star Flower

I don’t think back in March I expected we’d still need to be so vigilant to keep the corona virus at bay, but I’m having no difficulty staying at home and observing the rules. We’ve begun Phase 3 openings and, because travel within BC is okay, I sincerely hope that our tourists are careful and obey the rules.

I was to be working on cards today; I had two patterns lined up with the end result of making three cards. All I managed was one card, but that one card is ready to be wrapped and put in the mail tomorrow. I’m finding a lot of fun patterns for my July cards.

I made a trip out to one of the shops this afternoon. I called them this morning and there was no answer so I thought they might be closed. I tried again this afternoon and got an answer – they are open shorter hours, but they are open. My car needed an outing so I set off, mask in hand. I should have asked about the specific item I wanted because when I got into the store and asked about it I was told they were sold out. The sales person was helping another customer at the same time and I couldn’t help but notice neither was wearing a mask and they certainly weren’t distancing themselves.

It was pouring rain this morning but the sun came out this afternoon so I think I’ll be able to get out in the yard after supper.

Rain Rain Go Away

Ruins of Jericho

My daisies are so close to being out; I think they just need one day of sunshine. There are a few flowers out but when the daisies are “really” out they fill the beds. We woke up to rain this morning but by noon it seemed like it might be clearing off. But it has been raining quite hard for the last half-hour so I don’t think the daisies will get the sun the need today.

Once the sun does come out it won’t just be the daisies that come out – the weeds are going to be overtaking everything. I thought I might have a chance to do some this evening because Pat has an online engagement but with this rain that won’t happen.

I finished the quilting on my Log Cabin. I was half-done at lunch time but I didn’t expect to be finished today. I changed my mind slightly on how to quilt the last half (because what I had planned wasn’t working) so it went much quicker than expected.

I have several ends to tie and bury so my work for the day isn’t finished yet.

Log Cabin Quilting

Reflections of Love

I’m certainly glad that one of my Thursday sewing ladies taught me a new way to deal with those curves. There are so many of them in this block and I never would have got the stitching right. And be honest, could you tell if I had some of those squares turned wrong? Just in case you are wondering they are all correct but I rechecked my alignment with every seam.

I finished the stabilizing on my quilt before lunch. I had a few issues with tension – it worked fine when I stopped last week but this week it was a bit tempermental. I thought I knew how I was going to do the quilting on the blocks but that was before my new quilting book arrived. I looked at the suggestions in the book for a Log Cabin and almost chickened out. I don’t know where this quilt will end up so I decided to give one of their ideas a try.

So far it is going well. I’ll get back to it now before I forget what it is I’m doing.

Happy Father’s Day

Picket Fence

Happy Father’s Day to all, but particularly to my sons-in-law. My grandchildren (and daughters) are lucky to have you in their lives.

It was only recently that I found out that Mum’s Chocolate Angel Food recipe was hiding in the recipe book under Chocolate Vienna Torte. It took me awhile to gather all the necessary ingredients; sometimes we don’t get what we order from the store, and sometimes Pat thinks that white chocolate pudding will work as well as chocolate pudding. I know this won’t taste as good as Mum’s and it certainly doesn’t look as neat as hers but I’ve taste-tested both the cake (from the pan scrapings) and the icing (from the bowl) and I know I’m going to be happy!
