Socializing

Pat came across on the ferry this morning as a walk-on. He had some meds to pick up and some books that had arrived for him so I met him at the ferry and gave him his bag of stuff and a ticket for his return trip. From there I went to the post office and mailed George’s bandana to Taylor; I had a label for Taylor so she will get the package.

Today was a UFO day and I finished up the mystery quilt that I’ve been working on with Deloise. I think there might be one more clue coming so it may not be done yet.

I have the clue for the next Hex-along part and I got the papers cut and the fabric picked and cut. They always look simple when you see them in the photo – time will tell if it really is as simple as it looks.

Next up on the UFO list was to cut out some Aida cloth for more of my cross-stitched quilt blocks. I have 9 blocks done and I thought I might be near finished but when I counted this morning I have 14 more to go. My choice of fabric here is very limited; I found a lavender cloth but it isn’t exactly what I want to use if I don’t have to. I think I have more scraps on Texada so I’ll look there before I cut into anything.

After lunch I went out to Gail’s (where I normally went for my Thursday sewing group). Gail was Secretary for the Guild but she has decided not to return this year and I was asked to pick up the records from her so they could be passed along to someone else (not me). While I was there I brought home my sewing machine and my long-ago Thursday project. I don’t intend to go back to my Thursday group or my Tuesday Guild bees for the foreseeable future.

Tonight I’ll be off to a parking lot meeting for the Guild. It is the first of the season and we still have no idea when, or if, we will get back into the Church. It was a lovely day today so even though we probably won’t wrap up until after dark, it shouldn’t be too cold. Although I’m not actually on the Membership committee I was asked to help out. I suspect many of our quilters won’t want to pay their membership dues until they find out if we can even run a program this year.

What is it?

Is it a card? No, but that is what I’m supposed to be doing.

Is it a daily block? No, but I may still get back to that.

Is it a mask? No, although I was disappointed this morning when I went to my fabric stash and didn’t find any good Hallowe’en-themed fabric.

What is it?

It’s a bandana for George (Christy’s dog). This is a trial bandana to check the size. George is a big dog so before I make any extras I want to be sure the pattern is right. It was easier to make than I expected; I downloaded the pattern, printed it on four sheets of paper, taped the pages together, and then cut out the pieces. The actual sewing went quite quickly.

Apple Leaf (September 1/Block 125)

I spent some extra time sewing last night. I decided I needed a break from the mystery quilt so I made the daily block.

This afternoon I managed to get a card done (I still need a few more for September). I have all the patterns picked out though so that it a start. If I head over to Texada next week I’ll want them all ready for the mail.

Autumn Star (Block 126)

After the card was finished I moved on to my daily block. This was a tough one – a lot of pieces and challenging as to how to stitch all the pieces together so they could eventually be joined. I had to reverse stitch a few times before I was finished.

Lots of work

Tuesday, September 1, 2020

I’ve been working all day, hoping for some sort of finish but it isn’t going to happen. Maybe if I work late enough tonight I’ll get something finished.

Today was a new UFO number – I’ll be working on my Jelly Roll Rug. This was a Guild class I took, probably in 2018. I think it will be possible to get it done this month.

For most of the day I’ve been sewing rows together for the mystery quilt I have been doing with Deloise. I really thought I’d get it done this afternoon but there are still three more rows to piece together and attach to the eight rows I already have done. It isn’t technically a UFO because I’ve been working on it every week but if I don’t get it finished now it is likely to end up on the UFO list.

Just a few more seams and then I’ll take a break for some supper.

Back into my routine

Flying Geese Up and Down (Block 124)

It probably comes as no surprise that I have a schedule. I don’t always follow it but the schedule is always in the back of my mind. I finished off a hand stitching project last night (a Sunday project) and today I stuck to my planned schedule in spite of a few interruptions.

I’ve decided to get back to doing the daily block; I hoped I might get an extra one done but this one took most of the morning because I had some Guild and Hall business to take care of.

This afternoon I’ve been quilting (my Monday schedule) and although it is slow going I’m a third of the way done. It is a Guild monthly project from a couple of years ago. I don’t particularly like it and almost decided not to take it any further than a flimsy. But it was already sandwiched and all of the blocks were designed by friends in the Guild so it will be a nice reminder.

Tomorrow I get my September UFO project. Although I might not like the project number that is picked, I look forward to seeing what it will be.
