Cards

Wednesday, February 3, 2021

I walked up to the mailbox this morning and put some Valentine cards into today’s mail. It can’t be predicted how long anything takes to get anywhere, regardless of whether it is sent regular or expedited post. I hope I’ve allowed enough time for them to get to their destinations.

Today was a card-making day but before I got started on that I did some more cutting for my log cabin blocks. I’m now even more anxious to get it done because I know where it is going when it is finished.

My cards this month have been unusual. One card ended up as a wall hanging, one will end up as a table topper, one turned out to be a set of coasters, and some were embroidered and hand quilted.

There is still a bit of time left in my working day so I’m going to get something prepped for quilting.

Too early to know

Tuesday, February 2, 2021

I was sewing with the Guild today but before I signed on I wanted to get one of my log cabin blocks finished. For that reason, I was late signing in.

I had no problem with the centre of the block and the first log, but somehow I then stitched more than a dozen of the second log onto the wrong side. From that point on I decided I would just do one block until I got the hang of it.

I’ve managed to get one block finished but it is too early to tell whether or not it will fit together in the pattern I’m hoping for. One of the ladies had her 28 blocks done and on her design wall and it looked great; I’m hoping mine will look as good. She is making 28 more blocks because she wants her quilt larger; I can guarantee I won’t be doing that.

Back to it now before two online concerts start, one late this afternoon and one this evening.

What day is it?

Monday, February 1, 2021

I know it’s Monday because I had my weekly online chat. Monday is meant to be a quilting day for me, and the first of the month means I get to start a new UFO. When I looked for the project that came up on my list I couldn’t find it where the list said it should be but I found a project that might have been the right one in another bin. Right or wrong, I’ll be quilting that particular piece this month.

But this morning there were a couple of things I wanted to finish up from yesterday. Sunday is cross stitching and today I finished a couple of threads on my quilted block as well as adding a couple of things to my Neglected Floss project so I could see how it would look. I’m liking the look of it but I’m going to take out a couple of the backstitching bits that I did and change the colour.

Cards are usually something I do on Wednesday but I had a card almost finished and I wanted to put the pieces together before I moved it aside. I wasn’t liking the finished project very much so I decided to add a couple of borders and I think it is passable now.

Tuesday is quilting with the Guild and I want to start the log cabin project but I didn’t have my fabrics decided on. I’ve cut out my red centres and I’ve picked fabric (again) for the logs. I’ll make a block tomorrow and see if I’m going to like my choices or change my mind (again). It shouldn’t be this hard should it?

The one thing that I’ll do tonight (and pretty much any night of the week) is knit. I finished another scarf except for weaving in the ends so while we watch another online concert I’ll be able to get that done and perhaps start another scarf.

4 Projects

Sunday, January 31, 2021

I spent all day cross stitching and I have very little to show for it. There were four projects and I did a little bit on each one.

This is the result of my first month in a stitch-along. I’m pleased that I have been able to keep up, but there are really not a lot of stitches required each week. Most of them I have found easy to stitch but occasionally I get off on the wrong foot and it is more challenging to find and correct the error.

This is my first ornament of the month; I’ll use it as a card and that part of it still needs to be done. I thought it looked a bit cluttered so I’m starting another one and leaving out a few of the stitches. The second one is on green fabric and I only have a bit done – not really enough yet to see if the change I made has made any difference. At one a month I could likely keep up but now that I’m planning two a month I’m not so sure.

But that didn’t stop me from signing up for another stitch-along. It is called a Neglected Floss project. I have a drawer full of floss that has been left over from various kits; there are also some brands of floss that I don’t normally use. The instructions are coming out once and sometimes twice a month and I’ll try to keep up. It will be scrappy but the border around it will be the same throughout.

While my bread baked I did a few stitches on my cross stitched quilt block. It’s been awhile since I picked it up because I’ve been working in my puzzle book and/or reviewing Pat’s latest manuscript.

We have another online concert tonight.
