That’s unusual

Sunday, February 7, 2021

I couldn’t believe the time when I woke up this morning. It was 8:30 and what woke me up was the sun shining in through the window. Not only is it unusual for me to sleep that late, but also unusual to have such bright sunshine in the morning (we don’t often see the sun until late morning or afternoon).

It was time for some cleaning in my sewing room so I got at that first thing. I folded and put away some fabric; I pressed (but didn’t trim) 25 sets of blocks for my scrappy quilt and then I vacuumed. I pressed the quilt I’m going to be working on next. It is my February UFO and since I’m working at something until I finish it I guess I’ll be at it for several days.

For the rest of the afternoon I finished Week 5 of my stitch-along, as well as finishing the first clue in my Neglected Floss series. I started adding the borders on that project as well.

I’ve earned some reading time before supper. My book is so good – much better than the Netflix series.

I’m not convinced

The blank spots in the middle will have filler blocks inserted in a variety of patterns.

After four days, my log cabin blocks are finished. I was so tired of them by the time I finished that it was just an exercise in perseverance to get them done. The good news is that I’m happy with them but I don’t know if doing one project at a time is going to work for me. Tomorrow will be a better test as I plan to catch up on some embroidery projects.

I ordered two new Kindle books this morning. We’ve been watching Firefly Lane on Netflix; I enjoyed the first season but I didn’t like wondering at the end of every episode what was going to happen to resolve the cliff hanger they left you with. I had the book on my To Read list so I checked the library but they didn’t have it. So I splurged and bought both Firefly Lane and the sequel, Fly Away.

I should take some time to clean up my room but I don’t think I can handle that just now. My back is sore from standing and doing all the cutting, trimming and pressing. I’ll start my new book and save the cleaning until tomorrow.

Round and round

Another full day of log cabin blocks and no end in sight for at least another day. One of our Guild members said she thought there was about 80″ of sewing in each block. When I did the math for 28 blocks I thought I was getting close to half a mile by the time all the blocks in this section were done. However I neglected to change my inches to feet so it will be down to 187 feet for the blocks – still quite impressive I think.

I may have been converted to Stacia’s way of doing things – one project at a time. There are a few things on my plate that have a deadline attached to them but for most of my schedule it is one project for each day of the week. I’ve been a bit bored with the routine so a change might be good for me. I’ll try it for the month and see how it goes.

The one advantage I see is that I may get more things finished during a month as opposed to making a little progress on a few different things.

Now, back to my cutting board for a few more strips to add to the logs.

Switching up the schedule

Thursday, February 4, 2021

I was scheduled to be quilting a UFO today but I just can’t leave those log cabin quilts alone. I know I put off quilting whenever possible but I’m switching up the schedule so I’ll have a couple of days of quilting time in a row.

I’m still a long way from having my 28 blocks done – I think four are finished – but I keep going around and around adding a log onto the right, then the bottom, then the left and then the top. And you know the issues I have with left and right (and even top and bottom when reading from the pattern) so I’m taking it very slow. I have enough blocks done to know that the pattern is going to work out the way I wanted it to.

I’ll spend another day on the log cabin blocks and, if there is time, I’ll get back to my scrappy quilt leaders and enders. I’ll move cross stitching up to Saturday and I’ll quilt on Sunday and Monday.
