A technical day

Saturday, June 12, 2021

I decided this morning to find another solution for my Journal mail delivery – MailPoet. I installed the program and started setting it up. I tried to send myself a test e-mail and it wouldn’t come through. I tried a couple more times with no luck. When I went back to my mail program I noticed that I had somehow messed things up entirely and my Telus address wasn’t working.

I tried and tried again to fix the Telus issue but no with luck. Then Pat tried almost all of the same things I had tried but to no avail. So I prepared myself for a long wait on the Telus support line but I got through after only a couple of rings. It took awhile to sort out the problem but the technician managed to get everything back up and running. During the Telus fix I was able to note a few things that I needed for my MailPoet account. I’ve switched everything over and I’m hopeful that this journal post will come through this evening.

In between changes and fixes I’ve been tying knots and burying ends on my Paris Through the Window quilt. I’m not sure I’ll have time today to get the binding attached but it is so close to done I can hardly wait.

I guess timing wasn’t the issue

Thursday

I posted early yesterday afternoon but nothing came through the delivery system. I’ve almost given up but thought I’d contact the MailChimp people to see if they know why the delivery fails more often than it succeeds. My “old” system is definitely being discontinued on July 1st so I either have to sort out the issue or, as I’ve been thinking this week, just stop sending mail when I do a post. Less convenient for people but really not a big deal if they choose not to go to the website and see what I’ve been up to.

Absolutely nothing done this morning except a bit more of the Guild archives processed and a couple more trips to the postal outlet (the Post Office is still closed). As I stood in line for the second time this morning I realized that I’ve been in the mall more this week than through the entire time of the pandemic. I was in at Christmas for some photos and tape, and once in March to get some gift cards. There are no other stores in there that interest me (well other than BCLC) but I’m not telling how many trips I’ve made there during Covid-19.

This afternoon I have to do a bit of tidying up (a lot to be truthful) and I want to get my fabrics selected and cut for the June miniature I’ll be doing tomorrow with Stacia and Deloise. If time allows I’ll try to finish the quilting on Paris Through the Window. I added a few more stitches last night to my cross stitching but nowhere near enough if I’m going to make my deadline for having it done.

It’s been quite a day – so far

Wednesday

Pat may have sorted out the glitch I was having in my mail delivery system. If I post prior to two it seems like they go out that evening; later than that and it doesn’t seem to come out until the next day. My delivery system is set to New York time so it takes some calculation; I’ll try posting mid-day but some days there may not be much to chat about in the mornings.

But not today. Yesterday I posted a few kits and pattern for sale on a couple of different sites. It didn’t take long before I was being swamped with messages and I was on my computer for most of the afternoon sorting out packages for different addresses. Not everything has sold but there are quite a few items that have been spoken for and I was able to get three packages out in the mail today.

I needed to get an estimate on the postage for these items so I could add that into the e-transfer request to the buyers. I needed a few larger envelopes but I knew I could get them at the post office and get the estimated postage done in one swoop. When I got to the post office it was closed due to computer problems; I knew it was closed yesterday but I thought it would have been fixed by today.

My second thought was I could get the envelopes at Staples and take everything to the postal outlet in the Mall. Staples doesn’t open until ten and it wasn’t even 9:30 yet. But right next door to Staples is the dollar store so I went to get envelopes there – they didn’t have any. So I went across the street to the mall and checked at the postal outlet for envelopes – they were sold out. Walmart was just a short walk away in the mall and I got two different sizes of envelopes just to be sure.

Once everything was in the right packages I went back to the postal outlet to get everything weighed, measured and priced. By this time there was a long lineup and I spent half an hour holding everything in my arms; they were shaky by the time I got through and I’m sure it had nothing to do with my vaccine yesterday. I wasn’t home until about 10:30 and started messaging people about the total cost of their purchases.

And then the return messages started coming in – some with e-transfers and some promising to send money later in the day. For those who sent me payment I hustled to get their packages out in today’s mail so it was back to the postal outlet and another longer line. And I’ll have to do at least some of that again over tomorrow if the promised payments come through. But I think it is worth it to divest myself of some of these things.

Needless to say I haven’t got anything else done today. I hope to get back to some quilting this afternoon. Pat has an event tonight so I might make a bit more progress on a new cross stitch I started yesterday.

Day 449 – 2nd Covid Vaccination

Tuesday

I feel so stupid as after mentioning my Hall meeting in yesterday’s post I completely forgot about it. I woke up at six this morning realizing that I had missed it and sent my apologies to the Board. I’m particularly annoyed with myself as I had a motion prepared that I really wanted to present and have passed. I guess I’ll have to wait for the minutes to come out to see if anyone else read the motion in in my absence.

And I’m frustrated with my e-mail delivery system. It seems to send when it wants and I can’t find the glitch so I’m going to let it do its thing; some days you might not get anything and other days you might get a couple of days worth of posts.

We are off in a short while to get our second Covid vaccination. I don’t know why, but I feel nervous and I can’t seem to settle at anything. Hopefully once I have the shot I’ll be able to get something done.
