Glad to come home

Wednesday, June 16, 2021

I thought I was going to get a reprieve from yard work today because it was quite rainy when I got up. After breakfast I sorted out the recycling on the back deck and it seemed rather nice out so I headed out with the weeding gear.

Because we see the front yard from our living room it seems to get the most attention. The last few times we’ve come home from somewhere I haven’t liked the greeting the morning glory in the roses and the weeds in the driveway were giving me. The roses look great after my day yesterday so it was time to tackle the weeds.

Our driveway (outside of the carport) is cement that is rapidly eroding into … dirt I guess. The weeds grow in the cracks and break the cement down and then large chunks of the cement break off and more weeds grow. I cleared off most of the driveway and then moved the the drainage trough we have running the length of the back yard.

Because of all the rain and the dirt that accumulates in the driveway the trough gets full of dirt and then full of weeds. I have a tool that is just the right size for clearing the trough but sometimes those weeds get really attached and are hard to pull out. I got it about half-done before I quit.

I’ve got another day’s work out in the back before I can say it is done. Today I cleared out the spots you see if you are coming to the house through the back but there is another section that you don’t see unless you go around the corner of the house. About the only people who do that are the meter readers but I know the weeds are there and if I don’t get them out they will just dig in and/or spread.

I picked up another book at the library today and I have to say I didn’t cringe when I pulled into the carport – no weeds in sight. I’ve packaged up a couple more calendar blocks to take to Texada; I don’t plan to do a lot of sewing but I know I’ll tire of my two cross stitch projects and want a change. I’ve started loading my bin for Texada and tomorrow I’ll pack up my electronics.

We are patiently waiting for our produce bin to arrive. We paid up front to have deliveries once a week from a local co-op farm. We’re not sure what we’ll get but I’m hoping for some strawberries and rhubarb.

Pat has an online session tonight so I’ll have a chance to do a little more packing and tidying up.

Wounded in battle

I was clearing out the roses at the back today and they, as well as the blackberries, fought back. It’s the second time through this year for them and although the bindweed was pretty thick I think there were less blackberries. I was dressed in long sleeves and pants but I’ve still come out with quite a few scratches on my arms as well as my legs. By lunch I had everything cleared out and looking good except …

… except for the bindweed and blackberries I threw off the ledge and onto the driveway. So after lunch I went back outside and picked all of that up. Tomorrow, if I’m still able to move, I’ll clean up the rest of the back yard.

It’s a good thing I did my computer work this morning before going out to the yard as I certainly don’t have any energy left to do it now. I always have a few items scheduled for the middle of the month so they came first. Then I did a bit of an edit on the Sunday Song Circle recording and got it posted. Next up was to get a message off to the Cranberry Hall accountant so we can start our year end process.

Pat has a couple of online sessions today so while he’s busy with that I’ll try getting a few more blocks cut out and ready to take to Texada. I’ll be honest though – I may just lay on the couch under the fan.

Such a diva

June 14, 2021

I had three costume changes before lunch today. When I got out of my pjs I put on what I thought would be my clothes for the day. After my video call I realized that it wasn’t going to be a rainy day as was predicted so I thought I’d go out and work in the yard. So I changed into my weeding clothes.

My intention was to clear out the rose bed in the back so I put on long pants and a long-sleeved sweater. There was a small patch of weeds on the side of the house that I hadn’t finished the last time I was out so I thought I’d start there. But on my way to the side of the house I noticed that the patio bricks needed some clean-up; the dandelions really enjoyed the rain and were sprouting up like crazy. So I pulled those and then finished up the patch on the side of the house.

When I went to the front to empty my weed bucket I decided it was more important for me to mow the lawn than clear the roses. I got that done and raked; I thought maybe I should do the boulevard but didn’t have enough battery power in the mower (or energy in myself) to get that done. I was really hot by the time I finished so I changed into short pants and a blouse and walked up to the letter box with some cards. On my way home I took another look at the boulevard and decided I rather liked the wild look and it certainly matches all the neighbour’s yards..

I’ve spent the afternoon sorting out sewing projects to take to Texada. I have four card kits made up and I need to add some calendar blocks to the bin. I had hoped I’d only have to make a few more 12″ or 6″ calendar blocks for another top but I still need a lot. Tomorrow I’ll make up a few of those kits to take with me.

I’ll spend what’s left of the afternoon on some cross stitching. My brain is too tired to do much of anything else and I do have a project that needs to get done.

I hoping the internet gods have smiled down on me (and not laughed at me) and only the posts I want to go out today will actually be sent to you.

New day – another attempt

Sunday, June 13, 2021

I almost have it figured out but I was surprised to get a posting last night from both the “old” system and the new system. The “old” system posted from two days ago and the new system only sent one of my two posts from yesterday. I think when I set the delivery system to “Latest Post” it literally sent only the last post of the day. I’ve corrected that by sending out my posts immediately so you’ll get them as soon as I finish writing them. Not exactly how I wanted to go but that seemed the easiest way around the system. I’ll have to be better at proof reading though as I would often publish something, see an error, and be able to go back and correct it before the post was sent out. And we all know you can’t rely on auto-correct!

There were more technical issues in the house today. I was searching for something on the internet and the search wouldn’t go through. I was in Safari so I switched to Chrome but still no luck. I disconnected and reconnected my Wi-Fi but still nothing. I restarted my computer but it still wouldn’t work. I checked with Pat and he had just noticed the same issue. Our phone was also out but fortunately Pat had the Telus support number on his cell phone so he was able to call; we were able to get everything reset relatively quickly so the Sunday Song Circle could go ahead.

I attached the binding to Paris Through the Window this morning but because I had to be the technician for the Zoom meeting I didn’t have a chance to get much of the hand stitching done. I’ll continue with that for the rest of the afternoon.

Okay, I’m hitting the button now so you should be hearing from me very soon!
