Back to normality

Sunday, July 25, 2021

I had a wonderful week on Texada but today it is back to reality.

We spent the first couple of days on Texada doing a really good cleaning of the workshop. I have decided (once again) to use the space for sewing. I won’t move my quilting machine back over there but with two design walls it is so much easier to put quilt tops together in the space. I finished a quilt top (all the blocks were already made), worked on clues for two mystery quilts and did some cross stitching. And as you will have already noticed, I did a lot of reading.

I spent the morning today catching up with Pat’s accounting. I started it before we left but it was on my reminder list so I got it done today. The Hall is re-opening and I have a few bookings that needed to be looked after. I also did a bit of work on the Hall’s website. There is still more I’d like to do but it takes time and I want to make sure I haven’t messed anything up before I do too much.

Pat and I picked the last of the blueberries. We had a really good crop this year. I finished eating the berries from the first picking while we were on Texada and I think we have double that amount with this last picking. I need to be out in the yard again tomorrow as the weeds certainly didn’t take a holiday.

I managed to get in a bit of quilting this afternoon. I have the design figured out for the next round of border on my Medallion Mystery. There are three different blocks in the border so I had to figure out what would go into each one. Three out of sixteen blocks isn’t much but it is a start.

I’m done now for the day and will go downstairs where it is cooler to read or do more cross stitch.

Ready

Sunday, July 18, 2021

I spent the morning getting ahead on my reminders and paperwork. We’ll be off to Texada tomorrow morning and there were some things that were supposed to happen next week that I either got done early or delayed them a bit.

Once that was finished I started packing up projects to take with me. I must think time stands still over there; judging from the bins I have packed I’ll have plenty to do (not including the five library books I packed). When I told Pat I’d have my bin (full of other bins) and a bag he wondered if I had enough to keep me busy – and he was serious! Maybe I should add another bag full.

I had time to finish the first border on my quilting project. I probably had time to make a start on the next one but that meant changing thread on my machine so I just called it quits until I come back next week.

I picked up a sixth book from the library this afternoon but I didn’t pack it to take with me. I looked at my list from the last time we were at the studio and I had a few things I wanted to purchase. I was actually in three different stores today, wearing my mask and sanitizing my hands after each one. I think this will be my normal from here on in.

I just have my electronics to pack and I’ve got a list so I remember everything. I forgot my mouse once and I hated using the trackball on my laptop so I have a permanent list of what to take and what to bring back.

Quilting Day

Saturday, July 17, 2021

I’m back to my quilting project today. It is slow going but every bit counts. I’d like to have the binding on and ready for hand stitching before we leave for Texada but I think I’ll run out of time. Every quilted line counts though so I haven’t given up entirely.

I have the centre of the medallion quilted, and I’m maybe half finished the first border around the centre.

I’ll tie in some ends, bury some knots, change thread colour and get back to it before supper.

An odd day

Thursday, July 15, 2021

I haven’t gone grocery shopping for a long time; we’ve either had them delivered or Pat has been doing the shopping. But I was at the store right at seven this morning, got what was on the list and was home shortly after 7:30. Since I had decent clothes on (not my gardening ones) I decided I would skip the yard work today. I went out and did the watering both front and back; if we are away next week the plants are going to need some dampness in the ground.

I did a bit of computer work but by ten I was feeling guilty so I got changed and headed out the door. It is much cooler today and I managed to stay out until noon. I was working on clearing the patio bricks; it is the one spot that, when it is done, I feel was worth the effort. Pat will spray sometime in the next couple of days; hopefully the roots will be dry and I can get a few more out after our week away.

Since it was a cooler day I did some baking. I think it was Audrey who “liked”on Facebook the Heaven on Earth cake made with an angel food and cherry pie filling. While it baked I shelled the peas that we got in our last produce bin. We’ve also had zucchinis delivered in our produce bin the past couple of weeks so I made a couple of loaves.

My angel food is baked and cooled so I’ll start putting it together. It has to cool for three hours so dessert will be late tonight.
