I had a hard time getting down to business this morning. While chatting with Stacia and Deloise about our upcoming sewing-together session we decided that Deloise would teach us her technique for paperless paper-piecing. I tried it a long time ago without much success but maybe I just didn’t have the right teacher. I watched a video on it and then found a dahlia quilt tutorial and watched four lessons of that. There were things I should have moved on to but I was distracted by putting in an amazon order.

By this time I knew I should be moving on to something productive but I didn’t have much desire for any of the things I had sitting around that needed to be worked on. As I was setting up my sewing machine after yesterday’s session I decided I should try to sort out the pieces I had for my 16-patches for the Guild mystery. I didn’t do any sewing but they are all clipped together in sets and, once I get to them, they should go quite quickly.

I still wasn’t feeling very ambitious and thought I could blame Stacia and her “work on one project at a time” syndrome. All I could think about was that Hallowe’en stitch along. It didn’t help that my order of floss arrived in the mail to further imprint cross stitching on my brain.

But I sucked it up and I have finished another project for the 12-Days packages. I’m glad I stuck with it because now I can cross stitch guilt-free!

Back to Thursday sewing today. I enjoy these afternoons even if I don’t get a lot done. I was working on my Guild mystery but didn’t get as far as I would have liked. I’m making 16-patch blocks out of several different strips but making sure none of the same fabrics are side by side is harder than I thought it would be. I have a few made, a few clipped together in sets and a lot more that I still have to figure out.

I took along my Dahlia quilt book and Jessie took it home to study. That’s more than I have done up to now so I’ll let her take the lead when we decide to make it. I told them about my Circle of Nine book and will take it along next week for them to look at.

After I was packed and ready to go I did a bit more work on my October stitch-along. I have the grid lines done now and the last clue is out on Sunday. I’ve found a new idea on how to finish the project but I think I’ll do a test run on something smaller to start with.

I was up early and while I waited for my coffee to be done I added a few stitches to my October stitch along. Pat had an early appointment at the lab so I sat and stitched until he left.

When I went to the fridge for some cream for my coffee I noticed that the fridge light wasn’t on. I checked the freezer and there was no light there either. I sent a text to Pat and he suggested I check the breakers to see if one had blown; everything looked fine. I suggested to Pat that when he got home we could pull the fridge out and see if there was something in the coils that might be affecting the fridge; as it turns out there is nothing exposed on the back of the fridge. As Pat sat waiting to get into the lab he found someone who did appliance repairs, sent me the number and suggested I call right away to be sure to get on his list for the day.

I made the call but there was no way I was going to have anyone around when I pulled out the fridge (did I mention there would be dust bunnies if not rabbits?). I managed to get the fridge pulled out, got out the vacuum and a duster and then scrubbed the floor behind the fridge. I also got the garbage and recycling out to the curb and I had time to clean a bathroom. It was just after eight when the repair man showed up, replaced a fuse, and had the fridge working again.

Not a bad day’s work for only nine in the morning!

I was surprised last night when I came upstairs about ten to see the Comox ferry at the dock. Normally at that time the ferry would be docked for the night in Comox. I guess they saw enough of a break in the storm to make a very late crossing.

By this morning both the Comox and Texada ferries were running on their usual schedule. When I came downstairs at lunch I almost expected that the ferries would have been cancelled again as the winds had picked up and the water was looking very rough. But the Comox ferry was in at the dock and the Texada ferry was waiting to take its place. However I noticed that when the Comox ferry got closer to open water they took their “storm route” around the edge of Texada. All is pretty quiet now and I think we are back to normal for a few days.

I’ve been working on the last of my 12-Day projects all day. I wish I could say I was finished but I have at least another days work ahead of me before I can say that. I’m tired of doing the same thing over and over and over (yes, multiples of the same thing) so I’m going to quit before I make some stupid mistake.

I’m trying hard to catch up to the daily clues in my October stitch-along. As of now I’m nine days behind but I have a whole day of cross stitching ahead of me tomorrow.

UPDATE: 6:15 PM

BC Ferries surprised me again this afternoon. When I went downstairs after writing my post I was surprised that the Comox ferry wasn’t at the dock. The wind had died down considerably and I didn’t see any whitecaps on the water. The noon crossing must have been rough as they cancelled the afternoon ferry. So far they are still listing the evening ferry as a go.
