Who knew?

Sunday, November 28, 2021

I was up early and got most of my sewing supplies packed and ready for stitching with the Guild; I say most because I forgot a few things that I needed but was able to borrow from friends. I worked again on my 3-Yard quilt. I thought I might get it done but apparently this 3-yard quilt takes at least three days to complete. I’ll take it with me again on Tuesday. I expected to get my five tops back but the coordinator took all the sandwiches home and will bring them along to our next few gatherings for people to take for quilting. Someone told me that my tops were ones that some of our more expert quilters wanted to work on so they can have them if they want.

I was home earlier than I thought I would be. It seems as soon as one in the group starts to pack up we all start doing it. After getting the Guild blog written I sat down to do some stitching on some cards. But it is so dark so early that I needed my headlamp. I was disappointed that it was completely out of power when I turned it on. I found the charging cord and decided to see if it would work while it was charging. And it does!

So I’ll go back to my stitching until supper and move on to that last hat and scarf set.

Missing targets

Saturday, November 27, 2021

I fully intended to get back to my appliqué stitching last night after supper but there are two new seasons of Blacklist and I’m afraid that and my knitting won out. I managed to get a hat and scarf set finished so I still felt like I accomplished something.

The plan was to get up early this morning, get the stitching done and have the quilts at the Guild by nine. That target came and went and then I thought I’d have them ready for eleven. That target also passed but I managed to get them to the Guild by noon. My plan was to have lunch with the group but they weren’t even thinking of lunch yet so I dropped my five tops and came back home.

This afternoon I’ve been working on one of my three-yard quilts. I almost have the first two steps finished; I think they will take the longest because I had to make 48 HSTs and then put together 24 blocks. The rest of the pattern looks to be some strip piecing and cutting to size.

There weren’t very many at the Guild today so I plan to go in to sew tomorrow.

Running out of time

Friday, November 26, 2021

I finished up the last (I think) of my Christmas sewing this morning. I moved on to doing some cards until mid-afternoon.

We have two days of Guild sewing coming up tomorrow and Sunday; the focus is on Community Quilts (donations). I have a quilt cut out and I’ll sew at home rather than attend the event in person. Our Community Quilt days get more and different people out so it wouldn’t be like our Tuesday sewing.

I have a bin of donation quilts that need to be sandwiched and I want to get them in tomorrow morning so they will be ready for quilting by the end of the weekend. We have an awesome team of women who do the sandwiching. When I started digging them out of the bin I realized that they may not be entirely finished. The first two I pulled out to press had some appliqué stitching that still needed to be done.

I may not have time to get them all finished up this afternoon but I’ll keep at it so they are all ready for sandwiching tomorrow.

Just another stormy day

Thursday, November 25, 2021

We had a storm last night and the winds were probably stronger than they often are but it wasn’t the raging storm I expected. The first two ferries out of Comox were cancelled this morning, as were the first two from Texada. It has been windy and rainy all day today but we are getting used to that. Apparently the next one arrives Saturday, then another one on Tuesday and then we get a bit of a break.

I spent my morning getting my last 12-Days parcel ready for the mail and then getting my project ready for sewing this afternoon. Each box is getting more expensive to send; the “perfect-sized” box was only available for the first one. I’m shipping air but for this last one I was also able to include a birthday gift so that will save me some money later.

I had a good day of sewing. I finished the next clue for the Guild mystery. I didn’t think it would take me all afternoon to finish it so I looked ahead and have a start on the next clue. I’ll soon be ready to start putting it all together.

I have an online meeting tonight so I’d better get ready for it.
