Happy Birthday Dave

When birthdays happen in December I try to find a card that doesn’t have a Christmas theme. Although my mind itched to do this in Christmas fabric because it was on my cutting table, I’m glad I found another way.

Paper piecing is my favourite method for making cards; you can get (most times) perfect lines and points.

I kept with simple straight-line quilting.

What could be a better design for my grandson?

The X’s and O’s are for the hugs and kisses I miss because I live away from him. The name of the block says it all!

Little Things (from the Splendid Sampler series)

I think I used every technique I know in this small card – appliqué, piecing, and three different quilting methods.

My first attempt at the quarter-square triangles was a disaster; I thought I could make them work but decided that since my cards are “gifts” it should be done to the very best of my ability. So I started over and things worked out better.

At some point though it is too late to start over; it wasn’t until I was putting the binding on that I noticed a few of the seams don’t line up very well and there is one bigger mistake. Can you see it?

Happy Birthday Laurie

Sew South (from The Splendid Sampler series)

Laurie’s card is a bit larger than the rest of my cards in this series; I wanted to make use of some hexagons I already had prepared for my Blossoms quilt. I wish I had centered that red hexie a bit more carefully, but I think it adds a certain appeal being “off”.

UPDATE:

I was logged onto my account this morning and notice that Laurie’s card didn’t publish on the date is was supposed to. So Happy Birthday once again Laurie!
