Happy Birthday Kathryn

It seems by the time my Christmas sewing is done I’m ready for something different. This is the second year in a row that Kathryn has received a cross-stitched card for her birthday.

The bookmark kit was a gift from Diane – she knew how much I loved pansies. It was Pat’s idea to add her initials to the top.

Heartstring Star (from the Splendid Sampler series)

When birthdays happen in December I try to find a card that doesn’t have a Christmas theme. Although my mind itched to do this in Christmas fabric because it was on my cutting table, I’m glad I found another way.

Paper piecing is my favourite method for making cards; you can get (most times) perfect lines and points.

I kept with simple straight-line quilting.

What could be a better design for my grandson?

The X’s and O’s are for the hugs and kisses I miss because I live away from him. The name of the block says it all!
