Happy Birthday Barb

May 1, 2017

The Constant Needle (from The Splendid Sampler series)

I made this entire card at the Guild’s Spring Retreat. I enjoy having a machine that will take me all the way from piecing to quilting. I often do my appliqué and then quilt the background but in this case I quilted the background and then added the appliqué on top. It’s a method I will use again.

I don’t know whether or not Barb is a seamstress but the designer of this block says she is constantly stitching something.  And even if Barb doesn’t sew, who doesn’t like a splash of colour early in the Spring?

Happy Birthday Rick

Hen and Chicks (from The Splendid Sampler series)

Rick’s (and Christy’s) property has a lot of sheds and buildings on it, many of which are in disrepair. There are, however, two A-frame buildings in the back yard that I think would be perfect to keep chickens in.

Happy Birthday Pat

Stripes and Flowers (from The Splendid Sampler series)

The colour in this photo of Pat’s card is “off” – perhaps my camera is on its last legs. That red is a much darker burgundy.

When I finished the top of the card I didn’t like my colour choices. After it was quilted and I stepped back from it a bit I liked it better. Hopefully Pat will like it too.

The flower in the centre is a pattern I used a lot on my Celtic Crystals quilt.

Happy Birthday Madison

Love (from The Splendid Sampler Series)

There is no better name for a card than “Love”, especially for this girl!

I cannot believe Madison will be 16 this year. That means I’ve been a Grandma for sixteen years and I can honestly say it is the best job in the world!
