Happy Birthday Madison

April 10, 2018

Just for You (from the Splendid Sampler collection)

Can you believe Madison is 17 already! She’s grown into a beautiful young woman and I’m looking forward to all she will accomplish as a young adult.

I went back to the basics for this card. When I was first learning to quilt Stacia and Deloise taught me their freezer paper method for appliqué. My last appliqué project used washable interfacing and I didn’t like that technique as the pieces were heavy and difficult to hand stitch through. I cut some of my pieces a bit too small but it was good practice for anything else that comes along.

Happy Birthday Emma

From the Splendid Sampler collection

This was an easy choice for Emma.

The block is called First Stitch and it reminds me of all the crafting Emma does – cross stitch, knitting, weaving. Such a talented girl!

Happy Birthday Gavin

April 4, 2018

Finished Size: 6″ x 6″

I couldn’t find anything I thought was appropriate in my Splendid Sampler blocks, and I didn’t have any 1880 Sampler blocks to spare.

It was fun to go through some of my other block libraries to find something for Gavin’s card. This block is called Flying Pinwheel from the Block of the Day collection.

Happy Birthday Michelle and Ryan

For Michelle (March 19)

Somehow I missed posting for Michelle’s birthday, although I did make and send her a card. Michelle’s card is from the 1880 Sampler quilt-along I am participating in. When I first decided to make this quilt I wanted to use my 1930’s reproduction fabrics. But for the first two blocks I forgot I was going to do that and used some of my other scraps. This was one of the “oops” blocks.

For Ryan (March 31)

Ryan’s card is also from the same series. The blocks are quick to make (usually) although they involve some small pieces. I’ll be making two of each of the blocks from now on so I’ll always have a card top ready!
