Sunflower (from the Quilter’s Block-a-Day Calendar)

With cooler weather in September, Fall was an easy theme to pick for Trevor’s card. However that sunflower would be drowning in the rain we are experiencing as I write this. Perhaps it is the rain that makes the sunflower lean to the left?

Although I’m not fond of working with batiks I have to admit that there is nothing better to get just the right colours, no matter what colour you are looking for.

Teardrops & Diamonds (from the Quilter’s Block-a-Day Calendar)

I don’t usually work with batiks, but batiks were on my table so I went with batiks. When I see shapes like this my mind automatically goes to English Paper Piecing so that’s how I did the block. But I really want to get better at needle-turn appliqué and these would have been good shapes to practice with.

Block 11 of the 1880 Sampler (from the Temecula Quilt Company)

I started a quilt-along in February. I’ve made sampler quilts from this company before and I had great plans for this one; each week I would make one block for myself and one block to use as cards. As it turned out, the ones I was making for cards turned out better than the ones I was making for myself so I stopped at block 12 in April.

But this pretty little block was on my design wall (which is the front of the door to my sewing room) and I picked it for Carol.

Monk Fish (from Quilter’s Block-a-Day Calendar)

Alex recently got a new pet – a fish. His is much more interesting than this (a Siamese Fighting Fish) but I couldn’t find a pattern that was even remotely possible for me to copy. But around the same time as I was planning my September cards this fish popped up on my calendar and I decided to make it.

In the last few days there have been other fish designs showing up so he may end up with a set of fish!
