Happy Birthday Ryan

Twice as Much (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

I lost contact with Ryan for several years, was back in touch with him for a few years and then we lost touch once again. I’ve been so happy to have him back in my life. This year I have an address for him so I can send him a physical card as opposed to a virtual one.

My wish for Ryan is, as the card says, twice as much as whatever he hopes for.

Lots ‘o Hexies (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

Although it took longer to finish than I had anticipated I enjoyed working with the hexies. After the envelope turn and quilting, the block wasn’t as large as it should have been so I had to change up the pattern a bit; I used 17 hexies rather than 20 and arranged them slightly differently.

It is so helpful to have a drawer of scraps that I can choose from for these smaller projects.

Pack Your Bags (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

What a great name for this block – it doesn’t always work out that way. And it would be a great block for anything but a Covid-year (again). This will be Dylan’s second birthday under Covid-restrictions.

If When we are able to travel again what will be your first destination?

Happy Birthday Michelle

Making Templates (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

Most of the blocks in the Splendid Sampler series teach or reinforce a particular technique. This block, obviously, was all about making and sewing with templates. I used to really dislike appliqué work but I’ve found a method that works for me and that I don’t dread.

The fabric in the oval is one that I always associate with Michelle’s Mum, Diane. I made her several items from or including this fabric and I only have a scrap of it left.
