Happy Birthday Brian

December 11, 2021

Star Light, Star Bright (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

For a long time I thought Brian’s birthday was the 10th. Many years ago, after Diane’s Mum passed away, Brian said he missed getting cards in the mail for his birthday. Since then I’ve been making sure he gets a card mailed to him so having the extra day probably helped to get his cards to him on time.

I hadn’t made any of these blocks in awhile so I dug out my glue to help align those small pieces. I don’t know why I don’t use it all the time because it works so well.

Happy Birthday Erica

November 22, 2021

Erica is new on my list this year; she is Big Dylan’s (Dylan Burton) partner.

I used up the last of my Misty yarn on this. After I thought I was done I found a bit more yarn that had rolled out of my basket and was sitting behind my chair. It added a bit to the width of the afghan but It is still a bit long and skinny.

It is an easy pattern as the rows repeat so it is quite mindless. It is also a good way to use up multi-coloured scrap yarn and I’ve used it often in the past (and will continue to do so until my yarn is used up).

NOTE: It is the way the light shines on the afghan that makes some of the rows look more cream than white.

Country Star (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

There are 44 pieces in Erica’s card but it’s paper-pieced and that makes it easier. I haven’t met Erica yet but I hope to soon. I don’t know if she’s a “country” person but I think there might be a country song in there somewhere.

Happy Birthday Roberta

Flights of Friendship (from the Splendid Sampler series)

This has been a big year for Roberta. She and Warren celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and this is a milestone birthday for her.

The Friendship Star is a favourite block of mine and the fact that this mentions a flight is appropriate since we live so far apart a flight is necessary.
