Creative Harmony (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)
This is the card I planned to make last month when I got the date of the birthday mixed up with the page of the book the pattern was on.
This card is a bit dark due to the fabrics I picked. Fortunately Jenny’s birthday is on the longest day of the year (and she lives in the North) so there will be lots of daylight to offset the darkness.
I struggled to find a connection between Sawyer and this pattern and came up with nothing. Why did I pick it? After it was finished I went to check it off on my list of blocks and noticed that I’d already made the block. Not a surprise that I didn’t remember but why would I pick it again?
Turns out that Sawyer’s birthday is on May 31 and the card I was supposed to be making was on Page 38. However I made the card (again) on Page 31. Never good to make stupid mistakes but it is nice to know where I went wrong.
And speaking of mistakes, I should have had a better contrast in the flying geese and, overall, I think the card looks a bit Christmassy. I did put in the maple leaf fabric though as some sort of connection to Sawyer.
On a side note, as I was catching up with some quilting sheets for my project book I see that I made this block for Ken’s birthday last year. The block may be cursed because at that time I neglected to take a photo of the one I made for him.
There is so little of any one of the fabrics that the star fabric I had wouldn’t have even shown. However the overall design shows a star so I guess it’s appropriate. When I’m using such small pieces I’m thankful I’m using a paper-piecing technique.
