New day – another attempt

Sunday, June 13, 2021

I almost have it figured out but I was surprised to get a posting last night from both the “old” system and the new system. The “old” system posted from two days ago and the new system only sent one of my two posts from yesterday. I think when I set the delivery system to “Latest Post” it literally sent only the last post of the day. I’ve corrected that by sending out my posts immediately so you’ll get them as soon as I finish writing them. Not exactly how I wanted to go but that seemed the easiest way around the system. I’ll have to be better at proof reading though as I would often publish something, see an error, and be able to go back and correct it before the post was sent out. And we all know you can’t rely on auto-correct!

There were more technical issues in the house today. I was searching for something on the internet and the search wouldn’t go through. I was in Safari so I switched to Chrome but still no luck. I disconnected and reconnected my Wi-Fi but still nothing. I restarted my computer but it still wouldn’t work. I checked with Pat and he had just noticed the same issue. Our phone was also out but fortunately Pat had the Telus support number on his cell phone so he was able to call; we were able to get everything reset relatively quickly so the Sunday Song Circle could go ahead.

I attached the binding to Paris Through the Window this morning but because I had to be the technician for the Zoom meeting I didn’t have a chance to get much of the hand stitching done. I’ll continue with that for the rest of the afternoon.

Okay, I’m hitting the button now so you should be hearing from me very soon!

A technical day

I decided this morning to find another solution for my Journal mail delivery – MailPoet. I installed the program and started setting it up. I tried to send myself a test e-mail and it wouldn’t come through. I tried a couple more times with no luck. When I went back to my mail program I noticed that I had somehow messed things up entirely and my Telus address wasn’t working.

I tried and tried again to fix the Telus issue but no with luck. Then Pat tried almost all of the same things I had tried but to no avail. So I prepared myself for a long wait on the Telus support line but I got through after only a couple of rings. It took awhile to sort out the problem but the technician managed to get everything back up and running. During the Telus fix I was able to note a few things that I needed for my MailPoet account. I’ve switched everything over and I’m hopeful that this journal post will come through this evening.

In between changes and fixes I’ve been tying knots and burying ends on my Paris Through the Window quilt. I’m not sure I’ll have time today to get the binding attached but it is so close to done I can hardly wait.

June Miniature

I was already behind by the time Stacia, Deloise and I did our first check-in. Deloise had her top finished, Stacia had about four seams left to sew, and I had about four seams done. I keep telling myself that I’m not a slow stitcher but they are exceedingly quick. Works for me!

It was no problem coming up with the squares I needed for the top. My new scrap method works well; I had to decide on the colours I would use and then it was just a matter of opening the right bin and pulling out the fabric and doing the cutting. In many cases I already had the right-sized squares cut.

I used flannel rather than batting in the wall hanging and it worked fine. The quilting stitches don’t bury as deeply as they do in batting and in some designs that might be more of an issue. I also think it would be harder to bury the ends in flannel – not as much middle ground so the thread doesn’t show on either the front or the back.

I used a single fold binding using the fold-over technique I’ve tried before. I heard that it was easier to get a good machine binding done if the background, backing and binding fabric were the same; this piece seemed like the perfect time to try it again. I’m still not all that happy with the corners and I had to go around twice because I missed the fold-over on the first round. Had I done that properly from the get-go it would have been a better finish.

I love these small do-it-in-a-day projects!
