Taking some air

Tuesday, December 13, 2022

I won’t lie, I had a tough 24 hours yesterday. It was that horrible headache that just wouldn’t go away. The medical people keep pushing Tylenol but I’ve known for a long time that Tylenol doesn’t work for me. I was nauseous this morning but I think that was more from the headache than the treatments. As soon as I was able this morning, I called the Oncology ward and got approval to take the Aleve. Within hours of taking the Aleve I was feeling better – headache still there but under control.

I’m experiencing one of the common side effects of the infusion injections I’m taking; nothing I can’t handle. I have a spasm of pain through my stomach every now and again. They only last the length of a breath; a deep breath in and out controls the pain.

The Oncology doctor from Vancouver called this afternoon just to check in. The results of both the bone and CT scan are in and they show no cause for concern.

After being indoors and in bed for so long I thought I’d like some fresh air. For a good long time late this morning I sat out on the back deck, wrapped up in sweaters and a quilt and enjoyed the fresh air. There wasn’t a lot of sunshine but it wasn’t wet.

We may head out to mini-golf this evening; the Fire Department have a walk-through light display. I’m not going to be able to see the concert I look forward to each year so this will be our Christmas “thing”.

Happy Birthday Taylor

Gran’s Button Jar (from The Splendid Sampler series)

Many of my cards fit into the “large letter” category at the post office but if you add much of anything else you are looking at a much higher cost. I’ve notices from several cards that buttons will put you over the limit. This year I was sending Taylor’s card in with their Christmas packages so it was easy to pack it in.

I don’t think Taylor has ever played with my buttons but I do know on one visit she sorted through some of my scrap squares and put them all neatly in piles. At that time I had a small drawer in a tabletop cabinet. I need her to do it again but this time the scraps are in bins!

As for my buttons, they are now stored in the old tin cup from the well on the farm.

Happy Birthday Kathryn

from the Quilter’s Block-a-Day Calendar (June 20)

I thought when I first showed this block Kathryn commented that she really liked it. However when I went looking in my files there was another one that was very similar that had her name attached. Maybe she liked them both?

Kathryn is the recipient of that tablecloth that I was unable to get the stamped ink out of. I know I gave many of you a good laugh at my antics with the soap bubbles. Hopefully when Kathryn uses it she will appreciate the lengths I took to make if perfect.

The tablecloth with the stamped pattern was one of Mum’s that she hadn’t started. I wish I had paid more attention to stitching “on the lines” and I might not have had the bother with the ink.

12 Days – Day 12

Merry Christmas!

This runner for Christy is called The 10-Minute Runner – I assure you to took a lot longer than ten minutes to complete. I don’t know why I love this cardinal fabric so much as we don’t have them in our area. I made this (except for the quilting) at one of my Thursday sewing sessions.

for Kathryn

I’ve had this kit for a long time; in fact I thought it was a kit for the 10-Minute Runner but when I opened it up the package had been mis-labelled and I had a kit for a wall hanging. This was also done at a Thursday sewing session. I followed the lines of the trees for the quilting. I thought I had enough of the grey fabric for a border but when I couldn’t find any I added a facing instead.

~ 51″ x 23″

This pattern for Elizabeth came from something Gail (from Thursday sewing) found online. We each made one but they looked completely different because of the placement of the lights, mediums and darks. There was a lot of quilting to do on this and it meant changing thread colours often. Elizabeth is the only one who has a table large enough to fit it.
