Good weekend

Sunday, May 1, 2022

There is nothing better than a weekend of sewing with the Guild. The workshop was intended for scrappy quilts and, since I hadn’t make any progress on my scrappy quilt challenge, I was please to have the specific time to finish it. When the project was done according to the pattern I added a couple of borders to make it a bit larger. It will be a donation quilt and they don’t like them to be too small or too large.

After bragging last week about managing to get all my supplies into one bag for easy transport what did I bring home today? Two bins and a box of scraps from the Guild’s stash. Not to worry, I’m not expected to use it all myself. I’ll cut up fabrics for the Blocks of the Month, Rag Quilts, and some tote bags. The projects will be handed out at the Guild meetings so there is no excuse for people not to do their part.

By default it appears I’m heading into another two-year stint on the Program Committee but I’ve told them I won’t lead another mystery.

This bin of flannel will be used to make up packages for rag quilts for donation. There are already several pieces of fabric and batting that have been cut to the right size so it should be easy enough to package them up.

This bin of fabric will be used to make tote bags to sell at the next quilt show. The pattern is the one that they used as the group project at the Retreat; I’ve been told it is an easy one. I’ll also be working with the ladies who are doing the Blocks of the Month and I’ll have some fabric kits prepared for each month starting in the Fall.

I’m not sure how I ended up with this box of 2.5″ squares and strips. I showed someone my scrappy challenge for this month and I guess they thought I should make up some bags for others to work on.

UFO Challenge – April

May 1, 2022

I’m pleased with my progress on my April challenges.

Flutter (a 3-Yard quilt)

I ended up with a finish for my April quilting challenge. This will be donated to the Guild’s Community Quilt program.

Home Circle (from Quilter’s Block a Day Calendar)

The piecing challenge is done as far as I could take it. The blocks are finished but I’ll be shopping for fabric for the spacers between the blocks. I’ll be using a new technique for the block setting and hope to have a top finished after our sewing session in Panorama.

Happy Scrappy

I didn’t think I was going to get much done on my scrappy challenge but, thankfully, the Guild held a Scrappy Weekend and I finished it up today. This will also be a donation once I have it quilted.

Catching up?

Friday, April 29, 2022

I was awake early this morning thinking of all the things I needed/wanted to get done today. Once my mind starts working there is no chance of any more sleep.

My sewing room was a complete disaster from trying to sort out fabrics for the scrappy quilt I’m working on and will be taking to the quilting weekend. So I started with that and cut out the final two blocks for the top. And since every bin of every colour of fabric was out I decided it might be a good time to do a bit of sorting within the bins. I managed to make it through one of them but I’ve just put the rest back on the shelf to deal with another day. I’ve printed out all the steps I’ll need to complete my Happy Scrappy but I still have to pack everything up to take with me tomorrow.

Since I won’t be around on Saturday and Sunday I thought I better not skip my outdoor work even though I really wanted to. I’ve cleared out all the pots on the deck so they are ready to have some soil added and then some plants put into them. It was a good day to be doing the deck clean up as it was also garbage day and there were a lot of broken bits and pieces that I was able to take out to the bin before they picked it up.

I was having lunch when I heard a knock at the door. I had completely forgotten that Ned was coming over with some mail from the Hall and a bill that I needed to pay. Usually I have his cheque ready for him but since I had forgotten he was coming he said I can pay him on Tuesday when we have our meeting. I had another renter stop by with a payment a bit later so I took some time to get a deposit ready for the bank tomorrow.

I’ve got all the tops for this batch of cards finished; one of them is quilted. I’ll keep working at them this afternoon but if I don’t get them all done today I think I’ll be able to work on them Monday morning and still have them to the post office to go out in that day’s mail.

Although I’m really not caught up on anything I think I’ll be able to sleep better tonight.

Busy day

Thursday, April 27, 2022

I met with a renter at the Hall this morning so I was out the door early. She is teaching a Yoga for Seniors class on Thursday mornings, starting next week, and I’ve decided to join. We have quite a few yoga classes at the Hall but this is the first one happening at a time that is convenient for me. With the exception of the class that I was politely told might be too much for me!

Between that meeting and going to my Thursday sewing session I had time to finish the paper pieces I needed for one of my card tops. It is still going to keep me busy getting another one done and all of them quilted and finished before Monday but I got more done today than I thought I would.

It almost felt like I was forgetting something when I went to sewing. Gail has a spare machine and last week she suggested that I start using it rather than bringing my own. It is a Singer and sews very much like the Janome I have on Texada. I’m a little “iffy” on the quarter foot but it sure was nice not having more than a project bag to haul in and out.

Pat has another online event tonight and I thought I might go to the Guild demo even though I wasn’t interested in the topic. But I’ve already been out twice today and I think I’ll just stay home and clean out some pots on the deck or maybe I’ll get started on that last card or maybe I’ll do some more work on my Peppermint Purple project. I’m never at a loss for things to do.
