Success

Thursday, August 4, 2022

The Program Committee meeting went well this afternoon. It is a relief just to have classes and demo topics sorted out. I still have a lot of work to do but now that I know what is needed I can focus on that.

I didn’t want to but it looks like I’ll be running the Secret Pal program for the year. It will be some work getting forms circulated and returned in time for the first meeting and then I need to keep a record of who is whose Secret Pal. I’ll have to be sure everyone brings their gift to each meeting and that all the gifts are picked up or stored away if they aren’t.

I have teachers to contact to verify that they will run the classes we have picked and I need to sort out dates with the Legion. The demo nights are already booked but I’ll have to see what is available for the weekend classes.

It turns out that I will be leading the Circle of Nine weekend so I need to step up my game and get at least one project done (either my Home Circle blocks or my Postage Stamp blocks). I also have several calendar blocks (from my Covid sewing) in different sizes that I should do something with as the other two projects use the same sized blocks.

My head is spinning but I think I’m just rotating back to where I was before I said I’d do this.

Getting back on track

Wednesday, August 3, 2022

It felt like old times this morning when I set my timer and started to deal with some scraps. I would normally go for 30 minutes but my cutting table was such a mess I set the timer for an hour. I spent just a tad longer than that by the time I put the cuttings in the proper containers but it felt good to have some of the mess cleared away. I still have a lot of Mum’s fabric scraps to deal with as well as the big bag of scraps my friend gave me but … one hour at a time.

I finished putting together the backing for my 3-Yard quilt; I must find the pattern so I can call it by its proper name. I have a busy day tomorrow but I’m hopeful that on Friday I can get it sandwiched and start quilting on the weekend.

I must have worked harder than I thought because I feel a lot like having a nap. I will try to cover that urge by sitting and reading but there are no guarantees that I won’t be nodding off.

Some progress

It is so much cooler today that this morning I put on long pants and Pat used the “C” word (cold). It is unusual to see a cruise ship heading north in the morning but the Comox ferry had just left, the Texada ferry was coming in so it had to be a cruise ship out in the Strait. It was cool and windy though so we didn’t watch it for long.

I spent the first part of the morning putting together some kits for the Guild. I brought home most of the Community Quilt fabric in the Spring so it could be put together so it would actually get used. I had already put together a bag and a quilt but, due to copyright issues, I had to re-package them. I’ve been moving fabric for 3-yard quilts from one spot in my sewing room to another but today I cut and packaged up two quilts. Again, due to copyright, whoever takes the packages will have to either have their own pattern book or borrow one of the two we have in the library. There is still a lot of fabric to do something with but at least I’ve made a start.

And speaking of lots of fabric, I finished all the blocks I’ll need for the backing on my own 3-Yard quilt. There are still a lot of scraps in the bin but I’ll cut the pieces down and add them to my own scrap stash.

I went to the Guild bee today to drop off a few things and pick up a few other things. I didn’t sew but it was lovely and cool in the basement room. I should have been there last week when it was so hot.

I have a bit more work to do this afternoon for the Program meeting on Thursday and then I need to go out and deadhead the daisies.

It’s over

Monday, August 1, 2022

It is noticeably cooler today. I checked the 14-day weather and our heatwave is over – for now at least. As a result of a cooler house I’ve been upstairs working all day but I haven’t sewn a stitch.

I have arranged for a Guild Program Committee meeting here on Thursday. I’ve been making notes since I agreed to take on the job but I decided today I needed to put all those notes into some sort of order. Once my own notes were organized I started to look at the bag of information I received from the previous committee head.

I know I’m picky but I couldn’t see any rhyme nor reason as to how she had organized things. I took everything out of the two binders and various folders; I’ll go through it all and see what I need to keep handy for this year and what can be filed away again (in better order). That task will fill up the rest of my afternoon.

I went out to run a few errands after lunch. I got the items that were on my shopping list in a couple of stops. I needed to make a Hall deposit and put a couple of things into the mail but that didn’t happen because I left them sitting on the shelf in the Hall. And I was so proud of myself just before I went out the door that I had remembered to take the SodaStream canister for exchanging.

Oh – you know that thing I was saying yesterday about one project ’til it’s done? This morning the next number for my UFO Challenges came out and I’m feeling a bit more enthusiastic about multiple projects.
