Getting things done

Tuesday, September 13, 2022

I’ve finished both of the tops for my new projects. Hopefully tomorrow I can start sandwiching. I had almost as much trouble with the second one as I did the first. I get so confused when I look at a picture that shows an up-and-down arrangement but I have to sew the rows on the diagonal. It takes me a lot of arranging, re-arranging, sewing, ripping out and re-sewing but eventually it gets done.

I managed to move off a couple more Hall items this morning. I have another training session this evening and then I hope that is off my list for good. I still need someone to take over the bookings but no one is offering yet. At the meeting last night I was made a Lifetime Member which was a nice recognition.

I have an urge to get done as many of the tasks on my list as possible before my appointment with the surgeon tomorrow. It’s an afternoon appointment so it will be hard waiting around all morning. I’ll try to keep busy – maybe doing the sandwiching or maybe just playing on my iPad.

No time for supper

I went out to the yard with two tasks in mind – cut down the daisies that are done for the year and make another weeding trip around the patio blocks. I got started on the daisies and then Pat joined me and got out the hedge trimmers. He cut down the lilacs and a few patches of daisies and then did the remainder of the daisies that I was working on. He also trimmed back a few bushes, and cut the tops off the day lilies and irises. While he did that I weeded the daisy bed, the back corner where the fig is and started to work on the wall. I thought we would make a trip to the dump with our green waste tomorrow but since we had to pick up all those clippings anyway we loaded the truck and got it all done today. The patio bricks will have to wait for another day.

I’ve been working on one of my new projects this afternoon. I’m about half done but it is challenging me as it is set on point and that always confuses me. I’ll keep at it until our marathon of “stuff” begins in less than an hour.

Pat has an online Open Mic followed by a guitar lesson. Before he leaves for his guitar lesson we both need to log into his Zoom account so I’ll be ready for my training session at 6:15 followed by my last Board meeting at seven. Following the Board meeting Pat will log back on for a meeting with a couple of Board members regarding the Home Routes concerts. Pat will likely pick up something for supper after his guitar lesson and I’ll find something at home before my meetings start.

It is much less smoky today which is nice. The sun is shining but it isn’t as hot and, just now, we are having a little sunshine shower. That will help to lower the smoke even further and, fingers crossed, it will help slow down the fires that are burning.

Smoke in the air

Sunday, September 11, 2022

We woke up to a hazy view over the ocean and it has gotten worse as the day has progressed. It is warm though so we have the doors and windows open which means we can smell the smoke inside. There is a bit of a breeze coming in my window upstairs and I appreciate it as I’ve been up here most of the day.

I did a bit of tidying – digital files and paperwork – and then moved on to sorting some scraps and generally tidying up my surfaces. I say generally as they are never really clear or clean. I got a couple of packages ready for the mail and then I finished my calendar block.

This afternoon I’ve cut fabric for two more projects. I hope they don’t take too long to put together and then I’ll really need to get at the sandwiching and quilting.

I’m headed downstairs now and I hope to bypass my iPad on my way to the stitching table – that Botanical Garden isn’t going to get done if I continue to play games.

It’s amazing

I commented to Pat yesterday that it was amazing how much I could get done for myself when I didn’t have Hall and Guild work to do. I may at some point be sorry to have lost their work but for now I’m enjoying working on my own stuff.

I thought I might set up tables today for sandwiching a quilt and a few smaller pieces but I changed my mind early in the day. The quilt I was going to sandwich was a Guild Community Quilt and it meant I’d have to piece a backing for it and I really wasn’t in the mood. I wasn’t in a rush for the smaller pieces I had to sandwich and I thought if I waited just a bit I’d have my calendar block done to add to the pile.

So this morning I got caught up on my Peppermint Purple project. When I was putting it away and getting my Botanical Garden project set up I realized I’m further behind on it than I thought – at least seven weeks. Oh well, it will get done eventually.

I’ve spent the afternoon working on the calendar block. With a bit more effort I could probably get it finished but I’m going to take a break and play on my iPad for awhile.
