Accomplishments

Monday, September 26, 2022

I like to accomplish something every day; sometimes it isn’t a complete finish but I like to at least move ahead on something. Today my accomplishment is finishing a new book – Still Life with Bread Crumbs. As I was reading about the author I see that she has several other books of fiction; in fact there are seven other books as well as several books of non-fiction. I also see that some of her books have been made into either TV shows or movies, and I think we may have seen one of them. No surprise that I’ve added all of them to my “want to read” list. I’m not even put off by the fact that in an interview with the author she says that Still Life with Bread Crumbs is the first book that has a happy ending.

I am so grateful that Kathryn is going to come to Powell River to see me through my surgery and a few days of recovery afterwards. It won’t be a visit but I will be thankful to have her around to tell me what I should or shouldn’t be doing – if indeed I’m feeling well enough to be doing anything.

As far as accomplishments go that is it for the day – unless you count the endless puzzles and games I’ve gone through in my iPad. It was definitely my most relaxed day in ages!

I’m way behind

Yesterday afternoon I got down to my workshop to do some sewing. I didn’t want to light a fire so I took a heater with me. By the time I did a bit of cleaning up I was warm enough to take off my sweater and turn off the heater. I had hoped to finish a clue for my summer mystery but I quit before it was finished. I got my 36-nine patches ready to sew together and maybe I’ll have time to move on to the next step.

While I was on my computer this morning I noticed that I hadn’t added the book I am currently reading into Goodreads. I’ve read 18 books so far this year but, sadly, I’m 18 books behind to complete my reading goal. Even if I finish the three books I have set out for reading on this trip I won’t be caught up by much. I expect there will be time to read more next month as I’m recovering.

I managed to get my nine-patches done today and I stuck up half of the 36 final blocks so they will be ready for sewing together – maybe tomorrow. Pat has gone back home this afternoon – AGM and the monthly Coffee House at the Hall. It was a good idea to time the AGM with the Coffee House as there should be at least a few folks attending.

I may do nothing tonight or I might do some of my stamped cross stitch. Right now I’m feeling pretty lazy and sitting outside in the sun is making me sleepy.

Something old …

… something new and a couple of finishes as well.

Ahh – Venice. This was my favourite spot on our Italy tour. We wandered streets never really knowing how to get from one place to another but we were never entirely lost. We visited a couple of other islands in the Venetian Lagoon – one known for their glass blowing and one known for their lace making. But there were so many others that we didn’t have time for. I think we’ll have to go back.

I spent the morning sewing the binding down on a couple of projects. I planned to start my new Diamond Dots project (a birthday present) after lunch but Pat headed out to split some logs and I felt I should help him. He said I didn’t need to but he knows me well enough that it was unlikely I’d sit inside while he did the work.

Now that is done (for the day) I’m going to get started on the Diamond Dots. After supper I’ll switch to a stamped cross stitch that I’ve work on here, off and on, for several months. I doubt it will be a finish but it will have a few more stitches.

Texada

This isn’t my best memory of our trip to France but you can hardly remember France without a thought about the Eiffel Tower. We were in Paris during a World Cup sporting event and shortly after we were here a riot broke out near the Tower. We were far enough away not to get caught up in it but we certainly saw the emergency vehicles and police cars making their way towards the it. It is a nice reminder of the soccer tournament going on at the time – the soccer ball hanging from the Tower.

I had my appointment with the surgeon today and it appears that I am set for surgery on October 20, provided nothing unforeseen happens in the meantime. I was surprised that I will only be in hospital overnight – I thought it would be days at least. I guess once the surgery is done all the “getting better” will be done at home.

Since I’m not expecting any calls about appointments to start for a couple of weeks we came over to Texada on the evening ferry. All is good here and I’m looking forward to some quality relaxation!
