In and out

Saturday, February 11, 2017

I once worked with someone who was a food fanatic and one of his favourite chains was In-and-Out Burgers. In and out describes my day very well.

The session on publishing e-books was rescheduled for this morning at the rec centre. All the roads are cleared but the parking lot, at least there, was still a mess. Fortunately the pool and arena lot at the back of the building was clear and I managed to find a vacant spot for parking.

The seminar was interesting but I don’t think the format will suit what I want to do with my photos and journals. Even a one-on-one discussion with one of the presenters didn’t give me any answers or other ideas. Now that I know what won’t work I’ll have to get busy trying to find something else. I’ve made little progress over the last few weeks at scanning photos, but I haven’t yet decided to leave them all in a jumble in boxes.

I had a few errands to run after the seminar – some printing and I wanted to pick up some Valentine candy for the Song Circle tomorrow. I was able to get some cinnamon hearts but none of the coloured hearts with the sayings on them. I’m sure I had some last year but maybe I’m just too late.

Pat is playing a set at the health food store this afternoon so I will head out shortly to listen. When he is done performing he is off to set up sound for an evening fund-raiser. I will come home but meet him at the restaurant a bit later for dinner and the show – Pickers for Poverty.

I think I have just enough time to run the dishwasher before heading out again.

Keep moving

Friday, February 10, 2017

I have to keep moving for two reasons – to stay awake and to keep my back from seizing up.

It was a late night last night, after a very poorly attended concert. We took calls all day from folks who were either sick or snowed under. Only ten people out of our expected 21 were in attendance, but David Newland put on a great show. Fortunately we have a pay-in-advance and no-refund policy so David did okay money-wise.

Yesterday’s weather was absolutely bizarre – rain then snow then rain then snow all day long. We were constantly outside trying to keep a path cleared to the house and adding salt in all the bare spots. I guess I “did a number” on my back because it is really sore today. I’m sewing some cards though so I’m up and down to the ironing board often; as long as I keep moving I’ll be fine.

It was 1 AM before we went to bed, and we were up at 6:30 this morning. David had originally planned to take the noon ferry back to the Island but, as he said, when there are only two chances you don’t want to pass one up. The wind picked up this morning so I think he made the right choice, although I think the noon ferry ran.

We had rain overnight and this morning so the snow is disappearing very quickly. We had a storm pass over earlier this afternoon and we ended up with some sleet but it didn’t last long. The wind has picked up again and the sun is shining so all is well.

Tea anyone?

Thursday, February 9, 2017

We haven’t had a House Concert since November so, in preparation for tonight’s show, we had to restock the tea chest. I found a new Stash tea called Breakfast in Paris – I couldn’t resist buying it even though the Twinings tea was a better price. We made a pot as soon as I unpacked it, and we had another pot last night. The consensus was that we both really liked it and decided to take it out of the tea chest, put it back in the cupboard and save it for ourselves!

What kind would you pick?

My blind date

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

Sure, I could talk about the weather and the fact that it is snowing AGAIN! Or I could talk about the shopping and cleaning I did today for tomorrow’s House Concert. Or I could mention that I got the binding, sleeve and label ready for my quilt.

But this is more fun!

High-wire romance

Me: One of the greatest Hollywood love stories. True glamour. Roller-coaster romance.

You: Hopeless romantic with an understanding of what love’s challenges can bring.

Don’t you think that sounds just like me?

The library have a fun “thing” going on for Valentines. They have wrapped up several books in red paper with a little clue about the book inside. Although you didn’t get to see the book until you had checked it out, there were some that appeared to be travel books, romance books, short stories and cooking books.

When I got home and unwrapped my book, this is what was inside.
