I’m already tired

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

There are still two days to go before the Retreat and I’m already tired. There were a couple of things that I needed to do before leaving so I got them out of the way today. But not before I quilted a card and got the binding ready to hand stitch.

Perhaps not in everyone’s order of importance but … I got organized for the Retreat first. We had a list of items we were to bring for the Friday night project (an enviro bag whatever that is) as well as the colour of strips to bring for Saturday night’s poker game. I had one of the three colours needed for the strips and, since I needed to purchase a zipper for the bag, I decided to pick up fabric for it from the sale bin at the fabric store. I came out with a few “extras” but it is such fun shopping there, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday when two of our Guild members are working with Deb.

While I was out I purchased the snacks I will need (for sharing) on the weekend. I had Ju Jubes and Cheezies on my list but when I asked the ladies at the fabric shop about coffee and tea they assured me it would be on all day and I might bring some cookies for sharing. I ended up not buying the Ju Jubes because they didn’t feel fresh but I got some chocolate covered almonds instead. I also slipped in a couple of packages of cookies – the ladies may have been hinting at home-baked but they aren’t getting them from me. I also had beer or wine on my list but I substituted that with some Blackberry Ginger Ale; I had some at Christy’s and really liked it.

Once I was home I started packaging up fabric for my projects – my Circa 2016, my Guild Block of the Month from last year, and the blocks for this year’s Block of the Month. I decided it was easier to take bins of fabric as, for the most part, these are all scrappy projects. I’ll take along some fabric for my Wild Goose Wednesday project (also scraps) and my Leader and Ender project. I know it will be way too much as the Friday night projects generally take me Friday night and Saturday morning.

After lunch I tackled our Income Tax. It wasn’t really hard, but I had to do a lot of scanning and my printer/scanner is in an awkward position – not for printing, but it doesn’t work as well for scanning. My neck has been sore since the quilt show and today’s efforts didn’t do it any good. I have everything sent off to the accountant and she’ll give us the bad news at the end of the month.

There isn’t a lot of afternoon left but I think I deserve a bit of relaxation with my cross stitch. We’re off to a free Canada 150 movie tonight.

Just my luck

For the most part it was a nice day today – except when I went to the bee and when I came home! I loaded my car in quite a heavy rain shower but by the time I got to the Seniors’ Centre the sun was out. I took the long way around so as to charge my car battery so maybe had I been a bit earlier I would have had to unpack in the rain.

I didn’t get a lot done at the bee – a couple of card tops almost finished (with two more that I didn’t get to) as well as several more blocks for my Leader and Ender project. I put them away when I got home and I’m down to needing less than 500!

I didn’t even put my sweater on when I left the Centre. When I got home I had to deliver a couple of things to Carola but, by the time I left her place, it was starting to rain again. I had to unload my car in about the same conditions as when I loaded it.

Messed up

I’m totally out of sync today. Pat woke me up just past midnight last night to tell me he had taken the wrong medication and he was going to the ER. I asked if he wanted me to come along but he assured me he would be fine. About five minutes after he left I gave myself a shake and realized I ought to have gone with him anyway. So I got up and waited, and waited, and waited until about 5 AM when he finally came home. I don’t know which is worse; sitting comfortably at home without knowing what is going on, or waiting uncomfortably at the hospital but being kept informed.

Needless to say it was after ten before I got up. I followed my usual coffee and iPad routine and it wasn’t until the noon ferry was coming in that I had my breakfast. I’ve been working in my sewing room since then and now I feel like it is time for lunch. But it’s almost 3:30.

I organized some fabric scraps this morning and sorted out projects for the bee tomorrow. With what is left of the afternoon I’m going to start a new project. I shouldn’t, but it is one I’ve wanted to start for quite awhile; it needs to be done on Ruby so I can’t take it to the bee or to the retreat. Makes sense I should start it now – right?

Happy Easter

I took a walk around the yard today and it looks like Spring is here.

Peonies are up
Should be a good crop of blueberries
Those pink blossoms smell so good!
Solomon Seals are growing daily
Strawberries are starting to blossom
Blossoms are starting on the apple tree
Daisies are greening up
