What fun!

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

I arrived home yesterday afternoon and I’ve been “sorting myself out” since then. I unpacked last night but that was the easy part – I had laundry to do and it took more than a few trips to get all my new purchases upstairs. I’ve spent all day today catching up on my e-mail, work for the Hall and preparing for a couple of meetings later in the week.

So grown up!
Apparently the water isn’t cold – like I believe that!

I spent a weekend plus a couple of days at Christy’s; if you don’t visit on a weekend you don’t get to see much of the kids as they are in school. I met their puppy (yes, they tell me George is still a puppy) and after initially not taking to one another we got along fine after a few minutes. Taylor and I taught him to swim – can you believe they already are swimming in the creek on a regular basis. Dylan kept me company at home on Monday but they were both off to school again on Tuesday. There was a bit of mending and hemming to be done but, aside from reading, I didn’t do much.

I remember “doing” Dad’s hair but I think Taylor has real talent in that category.

There was much excitement when Rick’s classic car returned from an extended stay (7-8 years) in the States. And speaking of Rick he was very patient with Taylor when she “did” his hair!

Best table in the house thanks to Trevor
This really is a thing!

On Wednesday I met Stacia and Deloise for the Quilt Canada conference. So much shopping and so many beautiful quilts. Trevor met us the first night for supper, he joined us on Granville Island for supper one night (yes Christy, I stopped at Rogers), and he provided an evening full of entertainment when he took us to the Facial Hair Fashion Show at one of the establishments he works in.

On our last day we had a good visit with Caye, Paul, Frank and Willa. The only bit of rain we had was walking a few blocks from our bus stop to their facility. We could have transferred to another bus but it meant waiting 25 minutes for a three minute ride – so glad Deloise caught that!

Can I get it done before the first House Concert of the fall season?
This Sashiko panel was an exciting find (thanks to Deloise)

I brought home a fair number of new things – a lot of gadgets, a few patterns, fabric for specific projects I will be doing, and a couple of things I purchased because I wanted to. Somehow I will have to find time to add them to my already-long list of things I’m working on; before we head off to the next show in Edmonton (in 2020) I want to have at least a few of them done!

One more project

I didn’t intend to do any weeding yesterday but I couldn’t stop myself from pulling a few from the pots on the deck. Once that was done I did some watering – both inside and out. I’m very bad with houseplants but the ones we have are very obvious about needing water.

I did some more tidying in the sewing room. All the scraps are cut and put away but I wasn’t quite ready to vacuum. I was busy off and on all day with Cranberry Hall and Guild business; I opted to stay home from the bee so I could take care of a few things before leaving.

There was an event at the Hall last night and I had to open the doors and then go back and lock them at the end of the event. I could have stayed as it was open to the public but I decided to come home between.

Pat arrived back from Texada early this morning; once he was unloaded we loaded up again and took about 20 bags of green waste out to the dump. 20 bags pretty much fills the truck. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get that many bags again.

I finished cleaning up my sewing area (still not vacuumed though) when we came home. After lunch I decided to replace the straps on one of my bags. I bought replacement webbing for it when we were in Houston; it seemed fitting that since I bought the fabric at one show I should have the “new” bag ready for the next.

I ran a few errands this afternoon – the post office, the bank and Walmart. I think I’m ready to start packing. I’ve collected a small pile of things to take but I plan to travel light so I have lots of room to bring home purchases.

I have time before supper to do the vacuuming, but do I have the energy?

Last of the sewing is done

Another morning spent outside and I’ve finally made it around the whole yard once this year. Of course the first areas need to be done again and I’ll be going in circles for the rest of the summer. It is nice to look outside and see that I’ve made a difference though. We need some rain; I had to dig the hose out and do some watering again today.

I finished quilting my last card top this afternoon. I’ll do the hand stitching on the binding but I’m done sewing until after I’m back from my trip. I spent some time clearing off my cutting table; it was buried deep in fabric from various projects. I still have a ways to go before I’ll be finished with the tidying but I’m determined to get it done and vacuumed before I leave.

It was a sad evening last night. I was so delighted to find another season of Call the Midwife but every episode in this season seemed sadder than the last. I just checked and there will be at least two more seasons but I expect I’ll be waiting a long time before they come to Netflix. I’ll have to find something else to watch in the evenings now; maybe I’ll go back to Friends because after Call the Midwife nothing will seem very good for awhile.

I’m making some progress on my crocheting project; I’m finding it a nice change from knitting.

Boring – in a new way

Sunday, May 20, 2018

I usually feel like my journal post are boring – I sew and I sew and I sew.

This week I’m boring in a brand new way – I work in the yard, I sew, and I collapse in the evening and do nothing! That isn’t entirely true as I’ve managed a few rows on my crochet project as I watch another new season of Call the Midwife.

And it seems when I’m not sewing or in the yard I’m in front of the computer mostly doing work for somebody else. I was so tired today after working in the yard all morning that I had my shower and then had a little nap – it was only 11:30 but I really didn’t have enough energy to do anything.

I’ve been at my computer now for a couple of hours and feel a little more caught up. I’ll be running catch-up all week though as I’m leaving Friday morning and I have quite a few things to do before then. Least of which is to pack!
