Unsettled

Saturday, September 30, 2023

I had a frustrating day of sewing yesterday. The morning went well; this is my second attempt at the Anna pattern. After a lunch break I carried on thinking I’d be well on my way to a finish by the end of the day. That was not to be though as I realized early on that I had made a mistake. It took me almost an hour to figure out what I had done wrong and how I was going to fix it. By that time I’d had enough and quit.

I was looking forward to Friday Night Baseball and even more excited that the Blue Jays were going to be playing. No such luck though as Apple TV didn’t have a game and the Jays were on Sportsnet, not TSN. We’re a bit concerned that we aren’t going to be able to see the World Series without subscribing to something else.

We had another concert at the Hall last night. The Hall was packed and the opening act (Maddie Storvold) was great. I was not alone in thinking she should have been the headliner. We had history with the main act (Sarah Jane Scouten) when she and her sister were our house concert entertainers. When Pat spoke to her she barely acknowledged that she had ever been here before; she didn’t impress me that first time and my impression didn’t improve with this encounter.

Today I’m at loose ends. We’re putting together the final plans for our visitors – thinking of food mostly. We went out this morning to get curtains for the upstairs bedroom (Kathryn said we needed them). When we got them home and I put them up we realized there was only one panel in the package so we had to go back for another panel.

I’ve redone two of the pieces that were wrong from yesterday’s sewing but I don’t feel like carrying on so I’ll spend the rest of the afternoon reading, and maybe finishing, my book. I have another one loaded on my iPad as well as one ready to pick up at the library.

Happy Birthday Roberta

Flower Child (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

I had fun quilting this card. It isn’t often that I do anything that requires different thread colours but there are four of them on this card.

I wasn’t sure the term flower child really related to Roberta but a quick Google search came up with this, which I do think is appropriate (particularly the peace and love part).

The term originated from the custom of carrying or wearing flowers to symbolize peace and love.

Going out

I didn’t sleep very well last night. I know it wasn’t caused by an over-stimulated afternoon sewing session yesterday with Gail. We chatted, then I sewed a bit, then we stopped for coffee, I sewed a few more seams and then I was done. I was home by four. I don’t concentrate well at the best of times so I was sewing scraps together for a backing on one of my donation quilts. I did this with the last pieces of Mum’s fabric; when we have that quilt out we usually have the scrappy side showing as opposed to the patterned side.

I did a bit of cleaning this morning as well as baked a loaf of bread. I’m playing with my bread machine recipe and I think I almost have it right. This loaf is definitely better than the last one if the taste of the crust is enough to go on.

I decided that I would have a nap this afternoon as I’m going out to a Guild event tonight. I wasn’t sure I would sleep but I did. I was woken up by a phone call and then a knock at the door. I’m not sure who made the phone call but the knock at the door was my neighbour offering me some pear-apples.

Tonight’s event is the Guild’s Program Reveal party – Chinese food for supper and then we’ll get to see what classes and demos are planned for the year. After my Show and Tell with the girls I’ll be reluctant to sign up for anything new but you never know.

There’s time to watch a bit of a baseball game before I have to head out.

A few stitches

Wednesday, September 27, 2023

I finished as much tidying as I’m going to do upstairs this morning so I worked on my Pixie Lane cross stitch. Just a few back stitches to do and it will be done.

I went out to Gail’s after lunch for a visit and some sewing. Neither of us got much done but I put in a few stitches for some scrappy backing that I’m making.
