Mystery Solved

Monday, September 18, 2023

I know who brought me the flowers. It was the President of the Cranberry Hall board as a thank you for the work I have been doing. I was happy that we got an all-clear message from the accountant today. When Annabelle came by to pick up the files I was working on I asked and she said it was her. I couldn’t figure out why I hadn’t heard her drop them off because she said she knocked several times. I think it must have been when I was out working in the front yard and she was at the back door.

I haven’t had a particularly busy day today. I got a couple of cards ready for the mail tomorrow and did a bit of cleaning. I also did a bit (a very little bit) of tidying in my sewing area. I’ve set aside fabric for the next sewing day I have with Stacia and Deloise. By “setting aside” I mean I’m using fabric that was on my cutting board already and I just didn’t bother putting it away.

I will continue with a few more tasks in my sewing room. The house is cold today and I’ve already put a sweater on. There’s no way around it – I’m going to have to go and put my hands in hot dishwater in order to warm up.

Terry Fox Walk

Sunday, September 17, 2023

I hadn’t given much though to the Terry Fox Walk/Run until a sign went up across the street at City Hall. Although I knew I wouldn’t be up to the 10K that I usually do I thought I could at least manage the 2K.

Parking is always an issue at the starting point so I thought about walking up to the Rec Centre, making my donation, and then walking back home. When I looked at the map it was going to be about 6K and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to go that far. I’ve walked one way from the Rec Centre but never both directions.

So I decided this morning that I’d skip the official walk and go to the sea walk and get in a few steps in honour of the day. To the end of the trail and back is 2.8K so I don’t feel like I cheated. This was a much nicer walk than the official route with views of sailboats, a seal, a few loons and lots of sea gulls. Plus, I saw whales twice today from the windows at home. It’s easy to make my donation online. This year I probably profited from some of the research that has been done over the years.

I baked a loaf of bread this afternoon. I used the dough setting on the bread maker but baked it in the oven. The bread machine loaf is always so big and often runs over the baking pan. I cut down on the yeast a bit so it wouldn’t explode. I’ve yet to taste it but I’m sure it will be fine.

I’ll probably do a bit of crocheting tonight while I watch TV. I started a new series on Acorn TV last night. Is there anything better than good British comedy?

Productive Procrastination

Saturday, September 16

What a wonderful expression! I didn’t come up with it myself – it came from a conversation Gail and I had yesterday. As soon as I heard it I knew that was what I was going to do today.

My sewing room is a disaster and there is no way I can settle down to sew until it is cleaned up. But today, instead of tidying, I decided I’d rather pull weeds – so you know how bad the room is.

I cleared the patio and deadheaded a few plants that were done for the year. I cut some dahlias for the house – they are still going strong. I did the watering. I haven’t been watering much lately because there is condensation every morning but a few of the pots were looking a bit droopy so I took care of them.

This afternoon I did a bit more productive procrastination and worked on my computer. Time now to quit and maybe do a little cross stitching.

A few good hours

Friday, September 15, 2023

I feel like I had a really good sleep last night – for the last three hours anyway. I was awake my usual times during the night but at five this morning I got up to the bathroom and went back to bed and slept really well until eight. I’ve made note of the day and time so when I talk to the technician next week she can review the results and see if, in fact, I did sleep better during that time. I added my weighted blanket to my bed this morning and I’m hoping that might also help.

I definitely have had more energy these past couple of days. I managed to get all my recycling sorted and loaded into the car this morning. I made a Greek salad for my supper, did a load of laundry, emptied the dishwasher and even had time to take care of a couple of computer-related tasks.

This afternoon I went to the recycling depot as well as the bottle depot before I headed off for coffee with Gail. I didn’t take anything to work on but I think next week I’ll take some sort of hand stitching – something that doesn’t need a lot of concentration so we can still chat. On the way home I stopped to pick up a few groceries.

Up next – Friday Night Baseball and a hot dog for supper!
