Making progress

Wednesday, December 5, 2018

I’m getting some finishes done today – and it’s about time.

I’m pretty sure I’ve finished my shopping and all but my last two envelopes are in the mail.

I delivered my Reverse Advent Calendar bag of groceries to the Food Bank today. The list came to me from a blog or somewhere online; I bought all the groceries at the same time and delivered it today so they will have time to put them in their hampers. Perhaps not the intention of the idea, but it worked better for me.

I finished decorating the tree this morning. It feels a bit wobbly and there seem to be gaps in the branches that I don’t remember from past years; Pat generally puts up the tree but I did it this year so that could be the problem. It is in a different location than in the past so that could be it. I have to say that decorating the tree isn’t my favourite thing; I thought it was and maybe it will be again but, for this year, there were other things I’d rather have been doing.

I finished one of my three library books that are due in a couple of weeks. I almost finished it last night but I was falling asleep and couldn’t keep going even though there were only a couple of chapters left.

I have almost finished my ornaments – well that is if you don’t count the last two that I’ll be working on when I’m at Christy’s. Early supper tonight and then I’m going to get at the backstitching.

What isn’t finished (besides the ornaments)? I don’t have the reports ready for my meeting tomorrow night, I don’t have my bag packed for tomorrow night’s meeting, I don’t have my Secret Pal gift ready for tomorrow, I don’t have any sewing ready for my afternoon stitching, I don’t have my bag packed for my weekend on Texada, and I don’t have my bag packed for my trip to Christy’s on Monday.

Slow, so slow

Tuesday, December 3, 2018

My Tuesday sewing group are going to think I’ve abandoned them. For the second week in a row I decided I could accomplish more at home than at the bee. I don’t have any sewing projects that are priorities just now and, had I gone, I’d be taking time out for making coffee, doing library stuff, taking photos, cleaning up, and so on.

I’d like to say I’ve powered through and am finished my stitching but it is slow going. I even had to rip back in a couple of places. To complicate things a little more I’ve changed the colours on this ornament (I’ve already completed one of these) so keeping those colour changes straight in my head makes it hurt just a bit. Those weren’t my errors though, it was in my counting.

Thinking I needed to take breaks from the stitching I’ve been slowly, very slowly, adding decorations to the tree and emptying other Christmas boxes. I’m swapping out wall hangings, swapping out table toppers and runners and trying to find places for all my lovely “things”. And added to all that I’ve been interrupted with a few Cranberry Hall-related issues.

I’m going to finish getting my envelopes ready for tomorrow’s mail run and then I’ll get back to stitching.

My day

Monday, December 3, 2018

I didn’t bother posting last night because all I did all day was wrap parcels and boxes, plan for the extra things I needed to finish off my list, drag out some Christmas decorations and then do some ornament stitching. I can’t believe how quickly the day passes.

Today has been busy with more errands. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Set up the tree (no decorations on it yet)
  • Got out my Christmas linens (tea towels, placemats, table toppers, Mum’s cross stitch hangers, etc.)
  • Trip to the Post Office
  • Showing at Cranberry Hall
  • Stop at Brooks School (to drop off some fabric the Guild was donating)
  • Stop at the ferry terminal (for an Experience card for the carpenter doing the work on Texada)
  • Stop at the Post Office (I couldn’t carry both boxes in at the same time)
  • Stop at Quality Foods (I picked up all the items for my Reverse Advent Calendar at one time)
  • Stop at the $ Store (for envelopes for mailing)
  • Stop at the bank (for obvious reasons)
  • Stop at Safeway (they have the best selection of gift cards)

And just in case you are wondering, for about the third time I thought I was finished with my shopping only to realize I neglected to pick up one little thing. It has to end; after today I’m not going to look at my list again and I’m going to try to stop thinking of little “things” I should (could) do (get).

It’s just past noon now and, once I get my Advent Food Bag sorted out I’ll spend the rest of the day working on my ornaments and adding decorations to the tree.

Checking it twice

Saturday, December 1, 2018

I had plans for the morning but got caught in the deep dark hole that is my work with Cranberry Hall. I had a deposit to get ready and I needed to get the minutes of the last meeting out. As I was preparing the minutes there were a couple of things on my list that needed to be done so I took care of them. By the time I was finished it was eleven and time to get dressed and out the door on a few errands.

I thought today was going to be the day I finished my Christmas shopping. I only had a couple of things left to buy; one was a special order that was ready for pick up today. While I was picking up that particular gift I found something that would be great for that last person on my list. I came home quite smug and happy it was finished so early.

I finished wrapping up the package that will be heading to Calgary on Monday. When I was checking my list to see how much insurance I should put on the box I saw that I was still missing a gift. Fortunately it wasn’t something for Elizabeth’s box so it won’t delay my shipping.

After the box was wrapped and taped (and I tape them up good) I finished the minutes and circulated them. I’m going to be working on a couple more ornaments tonight. I said I was done (almost) shopping, not necessarily everything I need to do!
