Two busy days

Friday, March 8, 2019

Thursday morning I continued with my organization and clean-up. I’m not done yet but I’m making progress. In fact I’ve made as much progress as I can until I make a few more storage decisions (I’m thinking a bigger room!).

Thursday afternoon I was sewing with the group. I’m using one of my UFO Challenges as my Thursday project. It was a start I made at the Texada Retreat in November. I had the centre medallion finished but I wasn’t happy with a couple of my points so I pinned it to my design wall. In the past couple of months I’ve looked at it while I’m sitting in the chair and chatting on the phone. Not long ago I realized I had one block turned the wrong way. I got the medallion taken apart and fixed and moved on to the next step of the mystery. It really isn’t a mystery any longer because the final results were released in November. My advantage is I can see all the photos of the finished projects and I can make adjustments if I think they are necessary.

I barely had time to get home and have supper before heading out again for the Guild meetings. These were the last meetings before the show so there were a lot of details that needed to be ironed out. The good news is that I didn’t come home with any additional tasks; the ones I have are going to keep me hopping all next week (along with two House Concerts).

I decided last night that today was going to be a pyjama day but it didn’t turn out that way. Pat went to the studio yesterday but he forgot some of his meds; before I even had the coffee made I saw a message from him asking me to bring his meds to the ferry and purchase a ticket for him so he could make a turn-around trip. So I had to get dressed.

I spent part of my day finishing up a bit of the organization – these are my works-in-progress. It doesn’t look too bad but I doubt I’ll get through them this year.

On the other side of the room are my quilting projects, both large and small, that are waiting for me to get at them. I still have to figure out what I’m going to do with my fabric collections. I don’t have any empty bins and I don’t have room for any more bins so I’m going back to thinking about how I might sort it all out.

This afternoon I finished my four March cards. I’ll be stitching down the bindings this evening.

That felt good

Moreen and I ventured out for a walk this morning, our first since the snow started more than two weeks ago. We took a new path we had both heard about, one that neither of us had been on. We were never far from a house or business so we didn’t get lost. It was surprising how much snow there was on some parts of the trails and how little there was when we were walking through forests.

Since we both thought it might be icy and snowy we took our walking sticks. I’m glad I had them and that we were out early enough that for the most part nothing was melting. On the way home we ended up having to go around some muddy parts of the path. We may travel that route again as there were a lot of paths going in various directions and we just picked one as we came to it. Lots more exploring to do. My knees and wrists don’t think it felt so good to be out but I should sleep well tonight.

When I got home there was a message for me about a donation for our door prizes. I called another business and got two lovely (and very generous) baskets. Since one of the gifts was from A & W, I bought Pat lunch.

You’d think after all that exercise I’d have energy to burn but I feel more like taking a nap that doing the work that I need to do. I’ll get my reports ready for the Guild meeting tomorrow night and then I’ll get my project ready for stitching tomorrow.

And if there is any time left I can always go back to my organizing.

Back at it

Tuesday, March 5, 2019

Although I’m a long way from catching up on my Tuesday projects it was nice to be making headway today at the bee. I took two cards to work on and threw in my jelly roll rug just in case I had time.

The first card went very quickly – I even got it quilted so there is just the binding left to do. The second card took me the rest of the day to finish the top. Everyone was laughing at me and saying I was back to my old tricks using very small pieces for a Disappearing Four Patch.

I had to make several stops on my way home. The Hall (of course) was first on my list and then the high school to drop off more Guild donations to their Home Ec program. Next a stop at the library to pick up a book they had on hold for me and then on to the bank. My final stop was at City Hall to do some more Hall business.

We had an early supper (Shrove Tuesday pancakes) and then Pat headed off to the movie. I have a bit more work to do and then I’ll do some knitting.

We are easily amused

After Pat had is cataract surgery he knew he would need new glasses. He had been waiting a long time for his eye test due to the issued he had with the second surgery. He had that test last week and priced the cost of glasses in town. Way more money than we expected or wanted to pay.

So today we took the first ferry over to Comox to check out the Optometry department at Costco. He ended up with two pair of glasses (one set of progressives and one set just for the computer) for less than what one pair was going to cost locally.

Of course a trip to the Island isn’t complete without a trip to Costco … and since we were there anyway … we went up and down every aisle. I had five things on my list – so how did we come out with a huge cartload?

I picked up a small jewelry box, we got a toaster, Pat got surge protection and other electronic stuff; we got all kinds of paper products, some canned goods, some canisters.

When we were unloading it all into the truck we were delighted (again) when we got to the bottom of the cart. I had forgotten about the jewelry box and Pat had forgotten about the toaster.

We’ll have to go back again next week to pick up the glasses. Big question is do we take the vehicle (and possibly do another shop at Costco) or just do a walk-on and there will be no shopping involved?
