It felt good at the time

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

I was up early this morning and by 8:30 I said to Pat I thought I was ready to go back to bed for a nap. But this is a sewing day so I headed out the door instead.

I packed a few cards to work on, as well as a quilt top that needed another border added. It was one I thought I finished a few weeks ago but I felt it needed something else. I had two cards and the border finished by lunchtime.

I could have gone home early but I took an extra bit of hand stitching in case I finished early. But I also had another small project in my bag – a fabric basket that I cut out to take to the Spring Retreat and never got around to working on. Cleaning up even a corner of my cutting table paid off I guess.

I had a bit of trouble with the instructions but Moreen arrived to sew after lunch. It was a pattern that she made for selling in the boutique at the quilt show so she was able to point me in the right direction (after I did a bit of reverse stitching). I just have a few of buttons to sew on the corners and it will be done. What I’ll do with it I have no idea.

I had a few errands to do on my way home; Pat was leaving to get one of his nails fixed just as I got home. He picked up Subway for dinner and headed out early to a PRISMA concert.

There were a lot of things I could have been doing but I couldn’t resist the urge to lay on the couch “just to rest my eyes a bit”. Thank goodness the phone rang after a bit more than an hour and woke me up. I’m hoping if I keep busy until bedtime I won’t lie awake all night or be up again at four tomorrow morning.

It’s impossible

I’ve been really trying to keep things neat – well at least not adding to the mess I already have.

I spent the morning working on reports for the Cranberry Hall board meeting tonight. I also had a deposit to make and in both cases my desk extension worked very well. As they were new to my room they started out tidy and I managed to keep them that way.

For a few minutes before lunch I cleaned everything off my design wall. I had plans for a new and improved wall on Texada but decided it was silly to purchase more materials when I had something already in my room that would work. I’ve tended to use it more as a bulletin board so all of that stuff had to come off, and most of it ended up on my cutting table.

I had a real bulletin board (also full of stuff) propped up on top of the design wall so that had to be moved – it is currently sitting on the floor propped up against a yarn bin. That will need to be fixed.

I sorted out some projects for tomorrow’s bee. I had to clear enough space on my cutting board (and believe me it was not easy; the pile just got higher) to cut a few strips of fabric. I think I’m going to have to make a change to its position as cutting was quite challenging. But maybe it was just the stacks of stuff I had sitting on it that were in my way.

After a quick trip out to the post office and the bank I worked on getting the Cranberry Hall books ready for the accountant. I would have liked to have dropped them off tomorrow after the bee but I have one report that doesn’t seem to be balancing just right and I don’t think I have time to sort it out before I leave for my Board meeting tonight.

I have decided it is completely impossible to keep a neat and tidy room if you are making use of it in any way at all. At least that seems to be the case for me.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do

As I sat and knit with my first cup of coffee this morning I decided that today was the day I was going to clear off my cutting table, move it across the room to its new location, and add in the table I brought back from Texada that will be come both a sewing table and a desk extension.

While I had a shower Pat returned the liquor left over from last night’s event. When he came home he brought me a Starbuck’s coffee so I knit some more while I drank it. Finally I made my way upstairs to get started on my tidying and moving.

But first, there were birthday wishes to post on Facebook. And a Facebook message to respond to. And while I was there I did a not-so-quick look at what has been posted since yesterday.

But when I turned around to really get started the photo project I started yesterday was incomplete and sitting out so I thought I should finish that. Then it was time to report in with Stacia and Deloise on my weekly accomplishments (not many). And that led me to get a couple of finished projects posted on my website. And since I’m keeping those projects for future give-aways I had to clear out a drawer to put them in; is it odd that I’ve never been so caught up or ahead of myself that I haven’t had to store finished projects?

By the time I finished that it was past one and I still hadn’t really started on what I was supposed to be doing so after lunch it was time to get down to business. I wiggled a four-drawer cabinet a few feet so it will be ready to be moved to Texada. Then I moved my thread table into the spot where the cabinet was. Next it was moving my cutting table and then moving my desk extension into place. My pressing station still needs a home somewhere but at the rate I’m going it will be awhile before I need to use it.

So everything is moved into place – please note, moved does not mean tidied!

I’m off to a Cranberry Hall event this evening.

I decided that the yard couldn’t wait any longer for my hip/leg to stop hurting so I got back to it today. I didn’t do much; I set the sprinkler up in a couple of spots and gave the front yard a good soak. I know that it will help the weeds more than it will the plants but I’ll get back to weeding soon.

You know the weeds are out of control when you have to weed the pots on the deck. I have two very persistent types of weeds that love my pots; I’m not sure what they are but I got rid of them today. They’ll probably be back in a day or two though.

Pat is in charge of the Beer & Wine Garden at PRISMA on the Beach tonight. It is a fundraiser for the Hospice Society; it is the first time there has been a beer garden at the event and I hope it does well. Pat has put in a lot of work to make it happen.

I’ll be found at the exit gate making sure no one takes their drinks outside of the enclosure. I’ll also be rinsing cups and getting them ready to recycle. I could have had a more interesting job had I signed up for my Serving It Right licence but I chose something I was sure I could handle. I’m not on the Hospice Board, I’m not a member of Hospice, but I’ll be there working as opposed to listening to the performances and having a cool drink!
