It’s a mystery

My clean-up went well yesterday but there is still work to do. How is it that once I had my cutting table cleared and moved on to my working surface my cutting table all of a sudden was cluttered again? One day everything will have a proper place and several days/months/years later everything will be in that proper place. Until now I continue to work around the room and hope that with each turn I make some sort of improvement.

The show at the Hall last night went well in spite of the renovations. It was a comedy show, which really isn’t my “thing”; a couple of performers (out of five) weren’t too bad. We had a pretty full house and kept having to add more tables and chairs. We did okay on the concession as well – almost $90 just from cold drinks and tea. I guess the hot weather is good for sales.

The morning just slipped away – most of it was spent at my computer. I did most of my running around before heading off to my afternoon of sewing. I hadn’t worked on my project for three weeks and I was slow to figure out just where I was in the process. Gail sorted me out and I’ve left her all the blocks so she can arrange them in a somewhat pleasing manner. If I don’t like what she’s done I can always change it, but placing blocks together is another of my “least favourite” things to do (I have several least favourites it appears).

I’m off to my 100+ Women Who Care meeting in a few minutes. I enjoy finding out who the potential recipients are much more than I enjoy listening to them make their pitch; I’ve usually made up my mind about who I want to support after reading the ballot.

In my tidying up I came across two boxes in the hallway between my two rooms. One is the tuffet kit I purchased this spring in Vancouver but what is in the other one? It is an amazon box and I can’t imagine what I might have ordered that had so little appeal that I didn’t rip it open immediately.

I’d open it right now except Pat says there are humpback whales out on the ocean so I’m going to go have a look.

Is today the day?

Is today the day I clean up this mess on my cutting table?

Is today the day I clean up this mess on my hand sewing table?

Is today the day I actually clean out all these bins?

I don’t know, but I’m going to try!

I think my vacation worked

I had a terrific day at the bee. I worked on cards all day but I accomplished a lot.

The card I started last week but couldn’t finish because I had done the cutting wrong is finished and quilted. That particular card really included a bit of everything – some appliqué work, some embroidery, and some free-motion quilting.

Next I quilted the paper-pieced card top I made last week. It is all ready to be sent out to someone with a birthday next month.

And I remembered the right book for another card package. The focus on this one was curves and, if I do say so myself, I think I did a good job. So good in fact that I’m going to try sewing Deloise’s Farmer’s Daughter block by machine. No to worry though Deloise, I have lots of fabric to make a second one by hand.

I stopped at the Hall on the way home. The renovations are progressing well. We have a show in there tomorrow night (not Friday as I thought) so they will have to do some tidying up before then.

It was just a quick stop at Walmart and I was home before three. I love those days where things move along quickly – or maybe I’m just rested and it is me who is moving more quickly.

I’ll adjust

My holiday is over. Pat and I both came back to Powell River this morning. Although I’m not completely unpacked I managed to find and pack enough projects to take to sewing tomorrow. I made a collection call on behalf of the Hall (never a fun conversation), got a package sent off in the mail, did a drop at the thrift store and stopped at the recycle depot. We also got our garbage and recycle bins out to the curb to be picked up. Pat made a run to the bottle depot and shopped for some badly-needed groceries.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time on Texada, although I didn’t get as much accomplished as I thought I would – but then I seldom do. There were no long afternoons in the hammock – the sun didn’t cooperate as much as I would have liked – but I managed to get quite a bit of reading done. Some of that reading was proofing Pat’s manuscript; it was easier to read from the book than it was to read online.

I did some quilting but most of my workshop time was spent sandwiching quilts. I’m amazed at how many quilt tops were done and waiting for this step. I have three finishes that I will get up on the website tomorrow. I also worked on some cross stitch, my knitting, and my embroidery. No wonder I didn’t want to come back.

I will eventually adjust. The mornings will be filled with cars, trucks and buses making their way up the hill rather than the call of the loons. The evenings will be filled with people walking up the hill from the bar or down the hill from Seven-Eleven rather than the hoot of the owls.
