Unpacking and packing

Monday, October 14, 2019

When I get home from a trip the first thing I usually do is unpack. Last night I was just too tired to do it right away and by the time I had enough energy to do it Pat had already gone to bed. He moved my suitcase from the bed to the chair and it sat there until this morning.

I was refilling my daily pill containers and realized that the pills were packed in my suitcase. I opened the suitcase and started unpacking. When I was done I thought about putting the suitcase back in the closet but, since I’m leaving in a week, I put it back on the chair.

As I was cleaning up and hanging clothes back in the closet I thought I may as well dig out a few of the things I know I want to take with me on my next trip. So I started packing my suitcase – again!

There were a few errands to run today even though it is Thanksgiving. When I was at the Hall another Board member was there so we had a little chat about the renovations, which are looking really good I might add. I felt guilty for not staying and helping her as she unpacked a few boxes but I had other things I needed to do.

I stopped on my way home and voted. Election day is the day before I leave and since I’ll be coming home from Texada that day I may be short of time to finish packing and vote. I had to wait about 20 minutes to make my mark; everyone I spoke to said, like me, they went today to avoid the line-ups.

I picked up a few groceries on my way home. No turkey for supper (we’ll have chicken instead) but we will have pumpkin pie. I was also supposed to stop at Walmart but you know me – once the car is headed in the direction of home it doesn’t stop. I’ll go there tomorrow after sewing.

I’m not unaware that today is Thanksgiving. I’m sure I’m thankful for many of the same things you are – good health, a great family, and an overall good life.

It seems a waste of time

I’m busy cleaning up my studio this afternoon. After two weeks of pulling fabrics and patterns to send off for my sewing week in Saskatoon I decided I should clean up a bit today.

But yesterday we bought a beautiful glass-fronted display cabinet. It is the perfect size to fit under my sloping roof and I’ll use it to store fabric in. It should free up some bins or some of the other containers I am currently using (boxes, baskets, bags, etc.). The cabinet is on Texada and I want it in Powell River so it may be a week or so before I get it and can start filling it.

I thought maybe I should leave everything in its usual mess until I can “really” clean up but I decided it would be better to have the space clean so when it does arrive I have room to sort through the bins of fabric.

I would love to show you a photo but I guess the seller has taken if off the Swap ‘n Shop page since she knows we’ll pick it up the next time we are over.

Finishing Up

Tuesday, October 8, 2019

Pat and I were up late last night and I slept in a bit this morning. My internal alarm clock usually has me up around seven but this morning it was about 6:30 when I woke up and I thought I’d just snuggle in for a few more minutes. I woke up at 8:15. Most days it wouldn’t matter but today was a big day.

I quickly signed in to the Canada Post website and got my label printed for my free shipping. I cut fabric all day yesterday so I’d have something to fill the box. Although it wasn’t quite as heavy as the first parcel, it was seven pounds.

I quickly made a lunch, had breakfast, got dressed, gathered my sewing supplies and I was out the door just shortly past 8:30. First stop was the Post Office to drop off my parcel, then on to the lawyer’s office to pick up a Hall payment. All that and I still made it to sewing on time! When I’m motivated I really can move.

I had a good day at sewing. Deloise’s Farmer’s Daughter block is finished – I think it is a good thing it will be going on the back of her quilt!

I finished the block of the month for November so I won’t have to rush to get it done in the few days I have after my Saskatoon sewing trip. I also finished the last two blocks of my Thursday project.

There are just a few more things to do this afternoon and then I hope to finish my knitting project this evening.
