Today’s block goes out to everyone who finds themselves baking more than usual during this period of self-isolation.
I spent another day with my scraps and I’ve loved every minute of it. Today’s trial blocks included the first step in a Happy Scrappy Quilt Along. I had so many scraps littering the tops of all my surfaces that I spend some time sorting through them before moving on to my next trial block – Hi Neighbour.
After a short car trip to charge up my battery I finished the day with some string blocks. I certainly understand where that name comes from; not only is the fabric in thin strips but it leaves strings of thread all over everything, me included.
I used to keep track of what day of the week we were on because I had outings and things scheduled for every day. Lately I’m not sure what day of the week we are on. I made myself a schedule (a different project for different days of the week) but I would change my mind and change the schedule several times in the week. Without actually opening the calendar on my computer I’m lost pretty much all the time; neither my Block A Day Calendar nor the date/time display on my computer tell me the day of the week.
I’ve had fun today. I was getting bored with my same-old same-old projects but really didn’t want to start a new pattern. I’ve been saving ideas for projects that would use up my scraps and I’ve been designing a few of my own. So for today (and tomorrow) I’m going to do some test blocks for a few of them.
Today’s blocks included three Magic Puzzle blocks, three Temecula Stay At Home Sampler blocks, and a repair on a Bonnie Hunter Churn Dash Block. Not to worry, I have four more new patterns to work on tomorrow.
I spent some time this morning finishing the card top I started yesterday. It isn’t quilted yet but I’ll do that when I move my quilting machine into position on Monday.
Jewel Box
I took a few liberties with my calendar block today. I replaced some half-square triangles with some pinwheels (because I like pinwheels and they were already made and the right size). And I was able to pull all the solid squares from my bin, as well as all the small bug squares. It is very busy, doesn’t look much like the picture but I still like it.
I’ve spent the rest of the day working on my April UFO Challenge. It is a Christmas project and if I wasn’t at least two years behind on it I could say I’m ahead of the game!
