I’m on a roll

Coxey’s Camp (Block 117)

I planned to stop at the grocery store yesterday after my Guild meeting but when I drove by the parking lot and saw the number of vehicles parked I decided to wait until this morning and go during their “senior” hour. I was home with my groceries before eight.

After I put the groceries away and while I waited for a chat with Stacia and Deloise I washed my mask and then proceeded to wash out the shelves in the fridge. With Pat away the shelves are relatively empty so it seemed like a good time to do it.

I finished up the quilt (from hell) before lunch. I only had two borders to add so it really wasn’t much work but I’ve had so much trouble with it the past couple of days I just wanted it done. I think I like it better now with the border but I’m still not convinced it will be one I keep. It isn’t too Christmassy so it could work as a donation.

Chocolate Chip Muffins
Lemon Zucchini Bread

After lunch I started baking; it is a much cooler day today so I thought having the oven on wouldn’t be a bad idea. I found a mix for the Chocolate Chip Muffins in the cupboard. I don’t know where my muffin tins have disappeared to so I just used the paper cups on a cookie sheet. They turned out somewhere between a thick cookie and a muffin but they taste okay. Next up was a new recipe I wanted to try (hence the trip to the grocery store for zucchini and lemon). It looked good when I took it out of the oven but it collapsed a lot as it cooled. I’m assuming it will still taste okay. Some of the baking will go into the freezer for days when it is too hot to bake.

I have a request for more masks and I needed more elastic. The fabric store is only open on Tuesday and Wednesday but I called and Deb will leave a package on her porch for me to pick up. I’ll go pick it up while my supper cooks so I can get started on them tomorrow.

And speaking of supper I’m trying out another new recipe – one that came into the discussion when the cousins had a check-in earlier this week. The package of chicken I had was large so I’ll do some with the new recipe and some with Shake and Bake. I won’t need to cook again for several days.

Back on track – almost

Wednesday, August 5, 2020

According to my schedule Wednesday is a card-making day. It just so happened that I needed two cards for August birthdays. Both cards are done, wrapped and ready for the mail.

Broken Windows (Block 116)

It was noon before I finished the cards and I was tempted to get back to the quilt I made the mistake on yesterday. I looked at the daily block, noticed how many half-square triangles were required and thought I’d skip it. But I’ve skipped a lot of the blocks over the summer so I got busy and made it. I’m glad I did as I think I have enough of that size to put together another quilt top.

I finished the reverse stitching on my quilt project last night so I think now, before I quit for the day, I’ll get those ripped seams stitched back together. It will be a hexie night in the basement this evening.

I almost did it

Broken Dish (Block 115)

I had a few errands to do today so I went out early; I was at the grocery store during their “special” time for seniors and the immune-compromise. The other two stops were to drop the masks in the mail (in the drive-through letter box) and to put a Hall deposit through the night deposit slot at the bank.

I cut out the hexagons and fabric I need for the next step of my Curved Hex-Along. It is a fun sew-along and we only need to do six pieces each week so easy enough to keep up with. Better yet it is hand stitched so I have evening work to do while I watch TV.

And speaking of TV, Elizabeth got me started watching Modern Family. I’ve seen episodes here and there when we were travelling but I’ve never seen more than a couple of episodes in a row. I think there are ten seasons on Netflix and I intend to watch them all; I’ve watched half a dozen episodes so far and I’ve burst out laughing at some point in all of them.

Next up in the sewing room was to put another sew-along quilt top together. I had to cut one small centre block and then all the blocks were done. Sewing them all together was the plan and then I’d add the border tomorrow.

I’ve just finished sewing all the blocks and rows together and now I’m going to start taking three of them apart! I don’t know how I managed to do it but I sewed one of the centre sections the wrong way around. I guess the good news is that now there is lots of hand work to do tonight!

Ready for the mail

Monday, August 3, 2020

I’ve not accomplished very much today and I don’t plan to accomplish much with what is left of the day. I finished the last batches of masks today and they are ready for the mail tomorrow.

I have been making my masks using two layers of batik but I see so many that are made with fun fabrics that I decided to change mine up a bit. I dug out my bin of novelty fabrics and started cutting. Each of these masks have batik on the back side so if they are too juvenile for the older kids (and really the recipients are all older) they can reverse them.

I made a few larger ones for Dave. They are batik on both sides but he’s welcome to wear the fun ones too!
